Okay, being rather new to messing with the major internals of my engine, I really have no clue how to go about doing a major overhaul like swapping my stock ATX for a lentech. Looking over the pricing setup from Lentech's site (found here ), I was just wondering what I would need to buy to do a swap. Do the full transmissions have everything I need, or do I need to also buy a valvebody and torque convertor?
If anyone happens to know of any good books on transmissions and the general workings of them, or focus/ford trannies in particular, it'd be awesome if you could post it. Being as this is my only car, I don't have the luxury of tearing it apart and taking my time changing out the tranny (tho I'd love to). Thanks!
I've done this swap before on another persons focus. The trans should come with everything you need. Normally you chose the stall of your torque converter and they ship it off to you. there is usually a core charge also. You pay say 3K for it and when you ship them your old trans you get 1k back.
I wrote a complete how-to on this subject and it is posted in the how-to section of the teamfocus main page: http://www.teamfocus.us
My only suggestion is that you buy yourself a brand new transmission mount. the long bolts that hold the whole thing together frequently seperate upon removal. That is, the nut comes off the bolt and then you ahve no way of getting the bolt out to transfer to the new trans. Youwill also need 2 new oil seals for the differential and a new retainer clip for the half shaft. Other than that, its just plug and play.
looking over the pricing chart it seems to me that the first catagory you can buy the gears, the diff and housing, or the whole shebang. The valvebody should be included but call first. Looks like the torque converter is purchased seperately. Call them up and ask, it never hurts.
The guys at Lentech are quick to answer your questions too. I emailed them a question regarding a transmission that in no way involved purchasing one of theirs and they were happy to answer and answered quickly also.
Thanks a lot guys. The one time I called them, they were a little short with me, but it was possibly because I didn't (and don't know crap). I appriciate it.
