FocusPerformance has the SVT suspension kit for $275.  I'm wondering if this is much of an improvement over the stock focus suspension?  My car is almost four years old now and while it still drives fine, I'm sure some new suspension work wouldn't hurt at all.

From what I understand it is more than worth it. Especially for that price!

Do you think there'd be any issues using it with the 16"wheels?

I think the SVT has 16inchers stock so that shouldn't be a problem at all.  It's not made to drop the car, but it does have a half inch drop which shouldn't effect anything at all.

I thought $275 was a great price too.  Sure there are better kits to buy but you're going to pay at least another $200 for them.

If anyone else is interested, I found it at http://www.focusperformance.com  They are probably my favorite focus parts site along with BAT.

The SVT comes wirh 17's stock. But the only reasone you can't use smaller wheels on the SVT is because of the brakes. The SVT suspension gives the regulat focus a 1 inch drop. I wouldn't worry about rubbing or anything.

I went over to Focus performance to take a look for the kit. Where's it listed?

that is a good price. I'm unsure tho...is it worth it? Say I don't care for just a 1/2'' drop and go pick up some other springs to make it lower...will the rest of that stuff be better to have then what I've got now or is it better to have all aftermarket suspension parts instead? And it says for zx3 and zx5 does this mean it won't work on a sedan? What's the difference?

Maxx, I believe that the SVT suspension will give you a 1" drop. And I'm almost positive that it will work on a sedan. I believe that Joe(RPIJG) has some info on this. Maybe you should throw him a PM. If you were to go with different springs, I would go with a different damper too, one that is more suited to the aftermarket springs. One of the bonuses that you get when installing the SVT suspension is that ford engineers have probably spent weeks designing these parts, and they are more likely to know about the focus suspension better than some aftermarket company. If you spring(no pun intended) for the SVT suspension, you are also buying the ford engineer's time. At least thats how I think of it.

Mikey is right...The SVT suspension will work with the sedan...truth telling the SVT is a bit heavier than even the sedan.  The geometries however will be almost exactly the same, and all the mounting points are identical.  I do have most of the parts to do this, save the front struts right now.  You'll get about an inch (not quite) for drop, but where I live in ME, you kind of have to take into account that anything much lower, and I'm gonna have to be EXTREMELY cautious when driving and I don't want to do that.  You shouldn't have any rubbing, and I wouldn't recommend using lower springs with the SVT shocks and struts.  Nor with the stock...I know some people do, I believe our fearless leader has done this without problems.  But typically it is best to get a matched set of struts and shocks..(frankly, spending the dough for the SVT dampers, and then putting unmatched springs on there is a waste of money).  You will eventually wreck the dampers, because they weren't designed to be semi compressed all the time.  Another quick note...just to ease your mind...the new 2005 ST uses the same suspension components as the SVT...and it's a Sedan. ;)

Thanks for all the info people.  Anyone know how difficult an install this would be, how long it would take to do, or any special tools needed to do the job?

spring compressor for the front, but I believe that is it...oh and probably a torque wrench just for safety's sake.

hmm..then it doesn't seem worth it to me. Less then an inch of drop. I'm not going to be happy with just that. Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to cough up some real money and do it how I was planning to in the first place.

You may want to check into a shop doing it. I had a hard time with taking out the rear bolts to release the rear springs and had to replace bushingsand a rear trailing arm doe to the torch damaging one. If you car has high miles and has seen the winter salt than you could have a hard time with the install. This is just a warning. You may have no troubles at all.

Like I said, doing it, and having it be worth it are two seperate things, some people don't want to go much lower than that for various reasons, aka driving in the snow if you are a New Englandah.  Add in frost heaves and you've got a recipe for a busted up car if you get down too low.  For those people it's a great idea, or for someone who is looking to make their own version of a rally car.  The SVT suspension isn't really "rally" but it's closer, and will handle better than the stock in that sort of situation.

I've been known to do that, only once or twice. LOL
Rotate your tires frequently if you really push on it, especially if you are using the e-brake to get the rear end to break loose.
