Hey everyone,

I've been having a pretty annoying pulsation in my brake pedal for the past few months, so I decided to do something about it...my first thought was that the rear drums were out of round, since I know that the dealer installed new rotors (and pads and shoes for that matter) when I bought car back in July. I also checked out the front rotors with a micrometer, and they all checked out. I brought my car into my school's auto shop yesterday so that I could take off the drums and check them, but I ran into a few problems and had to postpone it. Mainly, my auto theacher said that he had never seen a retaining nut holding the drums in place like the Focus has, and then we didn't have a socket large enough to fit over the nut. (1 1/8" was the largest we had) so I'm assuming that it's a metric socket. Can anybody tell me if you need a special socket for this, and what size it is? I appreciate any help you can give me!

Thanks

Chuck

Thers 4 bolts holding on the drum and bearing from the inside. Take those 4 bolts off and the whole thing will come out, and you can change the pads at that point if you need to. If you need to replace the drum than you will have to take the wheel bearings off unless you buy new one to put into the new drum, but than you still may need the nut to hold it all together.

Good luck and hope you figure everything out.

OK...thanks for your help. All I really needed to know is what size that bolt was as my auto shop has very few metric sockets and I couldn't get a pair of calipers to measure it.

If it turns out that the drums are out of round, does anybody have any sources for OEM drums? I've found them on focus-central.com for $20 a piece, but don't know if that's the cheapest there is as far as OEM parts go. Thanks for everyone's help.

hub nut is 32mm.

reuse it no more than 4 times before replacing it.

most of the drums you buy for less than 90$ will be only the drum and not the bearing and lugs. I suggest buying the complete assembly from napa for 92$. a 20$ drum plus 54$ bearing plus 20$ lugs is not a bargain. plus, pressing the bearing in and out is a real bitch. the race is perfectly flush with the drum and its hard to get a bit big enough to press and grab but not so big that it expands and shatters the drum.
