my 2000 se has been "clunking" under the front end here recently.I'm pretty sure i need to replace the shocks and struts,i'm at 70k miles. The car is basically a daily driver with an 80 mile round trip everyday. Are the Gabriels a good brand to go with or should i go with the monroe sensatracs(which i usually use).or might there be other brands i'm not aware of.thanks for any input.
I use Eibach ProDampers for my shocks and struts. I don't know about those other companies, but the Eibachs are nice and much better than the stock MacPherson ones, IMO.
Of course I got them on at the same time as my Eibach springs, so I can't compare the shocks with stock springs still on.
Well new "stock" parts will cost around $200 bucks, and for $50 more you could have the SVT suspension all the way around (Springs, Shocks, Struts, rear sway bar and new bump stops). Not a bad price for what you get. Just a thought.
If you want the guick and cheap fix. Just change you front sway bar end links. $30 and about an hour of work and the clunk will be gone. There is a how to in the how to section here.
If you go and change all your suspension and not these connecting rods you will still have a clunk unless they fall appart on you when changing the suspension.
Either way good luck and I personaly would go with the SVT setup over the stock setup unless the ride quality is a serious must. SVT will be a bit stiffer, not teath grinding stiffness, and the handeling will increase.
i was thinking of just replacing the shocks and struts with as close to oem as possible, but i may look into the svt suspension.thanks for the replies.
