Maybe it's just me, but every front drive car I've owned has been tougher on tires than rwd. Being an old-timer, I owned a slew of cars, and the above statement just reflects my experience. Anybody else agree / disagree?

Well, I've only owned one of each kind, but I don't much recall the tire wear on my Stang... Focus seems to be doing decently on its rubber, but I also have 2 sets so that helps a lot.
FWD is tougher on the fronts than RWD is on either the fronts or the rears. Differences in tire quality show up to greater extremes on FWD cars. The BFGs that you suggested to me have stood up very well. Rotate, rotate, rotate. :-)

I have'em rotated often.

The focus is notorious for bad Alignments...this will chew up your tires.
If you're noticing more wear than what you've experienced in the past, I'd have the alignment checked & done by someone who knows how to do it...probably go right to a dealer. I've had to have mine done on my 2k2 3 times in the 2+ years I had her and my 2k3 not yet, but I'm betting money this summer I'll have it done and it will be well on it's way to needing it.
I've found the rear tires wear more than my fronts.
I'll be rotating my summers every 3-4k due to the softer Z rated compounds. I always suggest ppl rotate every 5-7k miles.

The kit was dealer installed under warranty if you complained about rear tire wear and cupping. I'm not sure but I think that the original reference was to higher than usual tire wear on the inside area of the rear tires.

I had a 4 wheel alignment done. Since then, (3 yrs or so), it's been all right. I'm not complaining about excessive tire wear on my Focus. I just wondered if anyone else noticed that FWD cars in general ate up tires faster than RWD.

My 2k3 needs to go in for a check up anyway, but they don't want to do it until my winter tires are off. I have a noise which sounds like it's coming from the front psgr side...bearing maybe...luky me. The winters are noisy though so they said come back in spring. When I do that I'll have them check the alignment and see if I qualify for the kit replacement. I should...All i have to do is show them one of my Kumhos from the rear...they got chewed on the inside edge this past summer.
Mr. V - I've actually not had too many FWD vehicles. I grew up in RWD cars so I can't say for sure if I've noticed more in FWD or not.
Sorry
