i want to buy some springs for my 01 zx3. undecided if to get springs or coilovers. have seen the ones on ebay for about $55 but not sure if safe. people say that it may make my ride a little bumpier and might even mess up my shocks. i looked into buying aftermarket shocks and found them very expensive. some of the dealers said that i may use my stock shocks and some say no. please help!!!!

$275 for the factory SVT kit. coems with everything and drops the wip .5" and it feels a bit sportier. unless you want an EXTREME drop then yoru gonna have to make a sacrifice or pay out the a$$.

It all depends on what your looking for. STAY AWAY from coil overs! There are a few good sets but your going to pay in the $1,000.00 range for a good set, and from reading your post I'm guessing that's not what your looking for. The only set back with the SVT set up is it's only about 1/2 " drop. You however can use your stock dampers. If you choose to go with something that has a bit more drop you can go with the Eibach PRO set (1.6"drop). Which will run you about $500.00 for dampers and springs, you can go lower still with the Eibach Sportlines (2.0") and dampers for around $500 also. You can use the OEM dampers but be for warned that they WILL ware out real fast. I ran my stock dampers just because I did the install my self so I'm out nothing when I chuck them. Another unsaid rule is once you drop to 2" or below the camber will be out of wack and you will require a camber kit or buy new tires every 8K miles. Also very important make sure you have the alinment set after you have any of the above things done.

smokin has a valid point here - if you're looking to go more than the 1/2" drop of the SVT then you're looking at more money and once at the 2" mark you will definitely have to adjust your camber. The focus has a long history of problems w/ the camber and alignment in it's stock state, nevermind going for a drop.
Also, I've noticed that whenever I've ridden or driven in a car w/ a drop more than 1" that it does get stiffer...but that is my observation.

It's is a much debated issue about the camber at a 2" drop. But I can tell you from my own situation that unless you want tires to last 8K miles it's a must! At least the rear, The front camber kit isn't needed unless you go lower then the 2" mark, like the H&R cup kit at 2.5".
And Chelly is right, mine does ride a little stiffer. It depends on if your willing to give up your smooth ride for a stiffer ride for a lower car.

I've run the eibach pro's with stock dampers on my sedan for 56k. original dampers still going strong. the ride actually felt better than stock and you also felt way more in control of the car. really helped the things tail wagging in the wind and behind semis. only alignment item i needed was rear camber bolts.
now on my svt i went back to eibachs. before i was running h&r race springs, but on long trips my kidneys couldnt take it anymore, you seriously "felt" the road. this also had the stock dampers with no problems and am still using them with the eibachs. as far as alignment with the way low H&R...no prob with the front, the rear on the other hand, camber bolts and fc adjustable toe links to get it right.
