the camber bolts replace the rear upper control arm (curvy bar just north of the spring) to hub/knuckle bolt right? And you have to grind a nut off the knuckle also? Just want to be sure before I start.
yeah, no-one answered my post on FJ either. Over 10,000 members and it seems I'm the first person to buy a camber kit. If I dont end up screwing the pooch, I'll write a damn how to. Searched the jet (alot of good that does) and not one person described how to install the kit or even posted a question about it. It seems to me that the issue would come up from time to time.
I know you want the kit in but give us a sec to read and answer....
Ok the camber kit should just slide in where the old bolt went.
What doe the new cit consist of????
Is it just a bolt or is it a bolt & nut. Where does the adjustment look like wirks from?
It could be 1 of 2 ways I am thinking. I did just redo my entire rear suspension but I did not install the camber kit.
1) The bolt is ovalish shaped and will just screw into the welded on nut on the rear crossmember.
2) You need to take the nut off the crossmember (I used a breaker bar and a socket, and spun it off using lots of muscles. You may have to flatten the weld that stays on the crossmember) Than install the camder kit (guessing its just a nut and washer).
I would say #2 is most likely what needs to be done from the tiny images I did see of the camber kit.
Silly question.... Did it come with dirrections... I know we're guys and dont need dirrections but you do know the only dirrections we use are for car parts..
dont worry fx3, I wasnt slammin TF. I was just annoyed that on FJ a 10K member forum couldnt or wouldnt answer a very simple question about a commen suspension issue. Anyways, eventually someone did and I got the kit installed. I have a how-to brewing.
heres the deal, the back bolts replace the upper control arm to knuckle/hub bolt. (not the crossmember bolts) I ground the nut that was tack welded on the back and I also had to grind this weird flange off. Nothing was mentioned about that and it could be due to the age of my car. Mine is a very very early 2000 model and it has strange parts that arent found on other foci. Could be I have some early knuckles. In any case, it was reasonable straightforward and the front was no trouble since its the same procedure as a strut/spring install. Got all my new tires mounted and balanced, and the alignment is done. All the numbers are green and I'm pretty damn pleased with it all.
PS, angle grinders rule! Oh yeah, Anyone trying to use a dremel on this project is going to end up buying a grinder. ANGLE GRINDER > DREMEL
