This is my first car.  I love it a lot but it needs a little bit of mechanical help before its street legal ($1000 worth of repairs).  It has a blown intake manifold gasket, extremely dented muffler, and some brake lines in the front were cracked.  Also a tail light is out.  I think there are some more problems but I forgot what they were.  I heared of this site from my cousin, Corner19.  I heared it was a good place to hang out and the people here are realy helpful.

Thanks :D.  I need some help finding some cheaper aftermarket parts for this camaro.  Like, full cat back exhaust system would be helpful.  Also some new headers since mine are rusted up realy bad.  A Y-Pipe could be helpful as well.  I think thats going to run me enough money so Ill leave it at that.

Thanks for trying to help but if your just saying "search for them" I already tried.  I cant find anything for my version of the car if I find anything at all.  All parts I find are for the 5.0L or the 5.7L versions.  I have a 3.1L version so realy using those parts wouldent be good for the car.  But thanks again for trying.

I recently searched EBay and I found a flowmaster 80 series muffler that can supposidly fit my car.  It is supposidly brand new and is $115.  Should I look into this or just pass it up?  PS: its a buy it now only item

FYI: A Y pipe os for a single back exhaust. Most 6 cylinders come stock with this. The Y pipe converts the 2 exhaust manifolds(headers) into 1 and goes out the back as one. H pipes and X pipes are used somewhere near the set of headers to equalize the flow going out to the rear. This is probably what your are looking for according to what James told me unless you are converting back to a single exhaust. As for your headers. If thay arn't leaking and broken than just leave them. Any headers you get for around $100-$200 will most likely rust up within a year(my $120 headmans did). You need to get some decent coated headers to avoid the rusting problem and they will most likely be $200+.

Also if you are sticking with the duel exhaust you will need 2 muffilers. The FM80 series is designed for V8's and may not give you enough back pressure. They are also really loud from what I have heard poeple say. Also, from James has told me I would just go to midas or somplace and get a set of decent(not the cheapest or you will be changing them in a year, and you probably don't need the loudest and most expensive either) muffilers that are recomended for the duel setup you have and put those on it, or see about matching the good muffiler is one is still good. From what I hear you need to get this thing on the road. Fix what needs to be fixed get it on the road and over time make the car the way you want it.

Thanks for all the info! I understand what you are talking about but this camaro has a single pipe leading back, single muffler, and 2 tips.  It has a y-pipe, leads back in one pipe, goes to a single crossflow muffler and then that gives 2 tips.  Ill just go to Midas and get a flowmaster I think.  Nothing more.  Thanks again!

Ok... I think I understand the setup now. From what James was saying the prevous owner had converted it to a true duel exhaust setup. I see now it was just a muffler change or possible the stock style muffler

Yeah... Here are a couple pics of my current muffler (Tomorrow its getting replaced by a stock one...)

Yeah its damaged that is why it needs replacing.  Cant pass inspection with that muffler lookin like that.  That is what I mean by crossflow muffler.  Maybe this could help you in what I am trying to ask :D

Congrats on your first car.  I can't say it will be the best purchase you ever made considering the winters here, but hey...I started life out with my first car being a 1965 Chevy Chevelle Malibu and my 2nd was an 81 Camaro - plain jane straight 6.

I think other than Rick, I bleed the blue-est of Chevy Blue here even though I drive a Ford Focus.

You really want to try and tune this car properly and make certain you get any potential leaks nipped in the bud.  You need to do a full on clean up in that engine.  Plugs, Wires, Air Filter (I recommend an Amsoil re-chargable or K&N), Fuel Filter, Change your oil (I can also supply you with a great quality synthetic that you won't have to worry about for a year! Talk to James about that if you like.  You know where I live... I would also look at your tires...if they are new, great, but take a moment to really give them a good look over and see if there is any scalloping, cupping or uneven wear.  You're also going to want to purchase some basics if you don't already have them.
Air pressure guage - check those tires COLD and every week  Do not inflate to the tires MAX PSI - I tend to run in-between the MAX and the manufacturers recommended on the door sill.
Flashlight, Jumper Cables, or your basic emergency kit.  I'd also recommend you get yourself a nice tool bag.  They sell some nice soft/canvas ones and start getting tools that will fit on your car.
Wash her well...clean the engine carefully, check your wires to be sure they're on tight and spray down (GENTLY) with some de-greaser like Simple Green or Gunk makes a good one.  Get it clean so you can see as you drive if there are any types of leaks.  I'd also recommend parking it over a large piece of cardboard to check for leaks underneath after it sits.  This way you can tell what type of fluid and where if any.
Educate yourself about the car.

My father has 2 camaros and one is built up over 600hp for drag racing.  If you need info, let me know.  I can help you out.  BE VERY CAUTIOUS OF E-BAY!

Feel free to pm me if you need more info. DRIVE SAFELY!!!

Thanks.  This camaro has a (what looks like) a brand new K&N filter in it, some miner dust on one side of it.  The tires are new, BF Goodrich Touring 215/65 R15 tires.  Treads look brand new, cant see wear on them at all.  Me  and James already looked at the engine and it seems to be in great shape for a 1991.  Not much more to say about it, but tomorrow its going in the shop for a lot of repairs, about a 6-7 hour job and then it should be ready to drive again.  Ill drop by the apartment sometime with the car, you could take a look at it yourself.  About fluid leaks, it does leak one at the moment, coolant.  Thats all it leaks, been sitting in the garage for about a week and all that leaked on the garage floor was coolant.  That is being fixed tomorrow, and according to the mechanic it should be fine for 6 months then it will need a brake change, thats all.  Ill take good care of this beast, and thank you for the help and support.

Bump! Well sorry for double posting but I got to say what happened to my car.

State Inspection

Clamp
Rear Axle Seals
Muffler
Brake Fluid
Parts Cleaner (3x)
Gear Oil
Sealer
Intake Manifold Gasket
Termostat & Gasket
Coolant
Oil Lube And Filter
Valve Cover Gasket
Plenum Gasket
Intake Fitting
EGR Gasket
AC Braket Brace
Both Exhaust Tips

And Finally, Labor

Well thats it, car is repaired.  Still need to replace 1 tail light (dunno why mechanic diddnt do it.. .well time for me to fix it) and my little trunk sealing acuator (it doesent pull it down... the trunk latches but the actuator doesent pull the trunk to a tight seal).  What do you all think? Was the price for ALL of that a good one? Took about 1 week of labor to fix it.
