The car is registrated on diplomatic license plates now, but I'm selling the car(need more space)and are just checking out how to get it "street legal" here..
It passed state inspection, and there was no problem with the US to euro VIN/car computer hookup...but there's some old strange rules about matching the US Focus of 2006....??? (downgrade it??? hehehe... sorry!)
I'm looking for someone who actually knows what to do and what that must be done or not.It shouldn't be anything..
Talked with the company here (houston) who does the DOT/EPA testing, but they are tied by the rules of the goverment...and actually don't know much except for overprice tests....
I just found a way around I think, but I will come back with that later...
After all, this car is made for Autobahn in Germany (no speedlimit) and have top securety(crash), handling and brakes. It even have six airbags....
I hope this goes trough because it will open the window for the rest of you who wants it...... but I'm the first who tries and will get it in.....!!!
Have a nice one
GP
PS! yes I live in Texas and the car is here....
I do know the US safety standard are higher than the euro safety standards. For example the US bumpers are rated at 5mph where most euro bumpers are rated at 3 or 3.5mph. That means a bumper change and we know there is no US equivelant to swap it over to that will fit. Not sure about other things. I know emissions get involved but those should be fine to pass the US tests.
Keep us updated on what you find out and if you do get it registered in the US with regular plates.
My Head Asplode.
DAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OMG I WANT IT
That is all.
