so i have had problems with the AEM CAI last week. im the typ of person who if they have bad lkuck with one thing, they go and buy something new and replace it. my gut instinct was to pick up the steeda ram air...ive heard absolutely great things from everyone who has installed a steeda product, and i must say i do love their short shifter. but, i decided id try the cheaper way out this first attempt at fixing the problem --> a bypass valve, which i guess one isnt made for the SVT specifically?? i ws told that if you get the generic pipe-sized bypass valve, it will restrict the airflow, which would make it pointless to have the intake. i thought i had seen the bypass valve for the SVT, or was i seeing things?? anyone who knows anything, i appreciate the help. thanks
http://www.focusperformance.com sells the AEM by-pass valve for the svt focus. You just have to check to see if your intake tube size is 2.75" or 3", they have both.
I would stick with the AEM cai, the short ram one just suck hot air from the engine bay.

hey thanks man, i knew i had seen em before and why would they not make one for a CAI that they have made...they'd have a lot of unhappy customers if they didnt...
oh yeah, and what is the exact ideal place to put the bypass valve, i dont believe ive read that thoroughly enough..either that or i dont remember reading it at all..

The instructions that come with it tell you where to put it. When I install mine they said to place it in the first straight section of pipe before the MAFS. But it might be different from the zx3 cai.

Let me know how it works...I bought the FocusSport Intake with heatshield and ITG filter and love it. I just worried about CAI and cold Maine weather...

ok, so now that i think i have the whole problems from last week figured out, i think im going to either A - do away with the AEM for the winter, or B purchase some PVC from home depot, and re-route the bottom part of the intake to end up higher in the fender wall than where it sits now. then find some plexiglass and make myself the weather shiled advertised of myfordperformance which is now on backorder. pics will be up if i do anything crazy for any curious to see...
ran into a problem with the filter being so low that while travelling on the highway, it was aparently hit with a rock or some sort of debris and cause a small hole in the filter, then in a rain storm, sucked in water, shorted out my MAF (mass air sensor) and TPS (throttle position sensor). needed to replace both parts...i was going to order the weather shield and bypass valve, should still order the valve, but the shield is now on back order thru myfordperformance, and im am impatient and was feeling creative, so i made a new one. i will have a pic or 2 up of my "invention" to solve this problem. to make a long story short, i used 3"PVC and customized where the bottom section of the tube, result being the filter now sits behind the side marker just a little higher than it was before. this also reduced the whistling noise while getting on the throttle from using a different type of piping (and added an intense, throaty sound up to about 3k RPM), but i will be looking into going to a machine shop of some sort to have the piping chnaged to aluminum to replace the approx. 5lbs of PVC.
as for performance differences, ive noticed a better pickup from highway speeds, thats about it, doesnt appear to have lost anything
As a new SVT owner I have a question. I was looking at the SVT intake setup and noticed it has the air flowing from the front of the car. Isn't this the best thing for it? I would think that just by dropping a K&N in it would be good? Loos like other air intake systems need to bend around alot. Has anyone noticed any gains with the other setups?
It just looks like the SVT guys did a good job to begin with. Just my

it can go either way really. after reading up on some dyno test results, i kinda wish i didnt spend the money on the AEM imho, bc the gains are minimal..dynoes say approx 1-5 hp. then i added the TB, and notice not so much of a power gain, but a throttle response gain between the 2. with everything going on with the car, im about ready to set her back to stock and get rid of the piping an TB..that is, when the parts come in. after driving all summer with it, i should have an answer to how different it feels. ill be sure to keep in touch

especially considering the stock system is pulling outside air from the front grill.
i have to second Sveet03 as well,
in that i'm seriously considering going back to stock.
although,
first i want to get the car dyno'd/tuned
and see what we see in terms of results.
