Im new to team focus and have some mod questions.  Im just curious to know if the Ford Racing parts such as the Intake Manifold and cylinder heads will fit the svt and if they do is the modifications worth it or is our svt manifold and heads better?  just curious I havent heard ne one say.  Im not wanting opinions as far as money vs. hp gained but just do they give more hp than our set up.  also I know there is a lot of pulley set ups you can go with i have just recently purchased the focus central 2 piece pulley set.  wanting some input on that what pulleys you have and what kind of gains you feel like you get?  and finaly what is your take on mix matching pulley kits such as my focus central pulleys which is the crank and the water pump pulleys (I think) and then adding say an aem alternator pulley is that a waste of time or would it further help the restriction on the engine?  Thanks and appreciate any comments

Justin

welcome to TF ... i dont know too much about the pulleys but in short from what i hear with the exhaust/header set-up on the SVT, if you go fancy with aftermarket parts, you are wasting your time. SVT has done a nice job with the exhaust set up on these cars, and from a few articles i have read, you actually lose HP when converting to aftermarket. good luck with the SVT

Justin, welcome to the board. I would concentrate more on bolt performance mods before replacing those things. A cold air intake, cat back exhaust, and off-road pipe will give you some pretty decent results. Also, keep in mind that if you go with pullies, there is a chance it will damage your motor over time, AND it will void your warranty.

Ok another question how will the pulley system hurt the engine i get the void warranty but the pulleys use the stock belt and should cause less stress to the engine.  and exhaust and off road pipe were in the works.  just questioning the Manifold and heads.  I already have the aem long col so i got that covered but thanks for advice.

The stock pulleys have a balancer built into them. The after market ones don't. Personally, I can't feel the difference, except for a little improved performance. Some say the after market pulleys will hurt your engine over time, and some say it makes no difference.

Who's right? I dunno.

I had a 5.0 Stang that was rather heavily modified, and went to the strip often. I bought it new, put Ford Racing UDP on it at about 5000 miles. Sold the car when it had 118,000 miles. Had no problems.

has something to do with the harmonic balancer. That's all I know, and I've heard it can break the crank. Not to mention that some of them don't give you alot of power, ie the alternator pulley really gives no power gain over the two piece kit and it sucks to change.

As for intake manifold and heads, I think you'd see negative effects from changing these things out. Especially since the head is entirely different from the standard Zetec, and come to think of it so is the intake manifold.

Welcome to TF - As Joe mentioned, the harmonics are thrown with the aftermarkets and many people have experienced issues.

Yup. Internal vibrations to the motors parts can cause problems over time. Ford wouldnt void the warranty for nothing. They know that aftermarket pullies are capable of causing problems unrelated to workmanship.

I'm not really sure if that head is any better. Anyone else know the specs on that?

The svtf motor and the zetec motor are very different, and most parts for one will not work on the other one.

The FR intake manifold won't work with the svtf head, because the svtf uses variable length intake runners.

The head on the svtf uses vvt while the zetec head doesn't.

If you are looking to get decent power with bolt-on's look at a JRSC or the Vortec unit.  They both bolt -on in about 5 hours and will give you decent power for the money.

The 2pc. udp will not harm your car, also the installation of after market parts can not void your warranty unless they cause the problem.
