so,
i have a basic idea
of what all the most common, basic mods
people perform on tuner cars are.
what i'm not so sure about,
are which of those are already done,
and which are already done well,
on the SVT.
bigger intakes (more cold air in)
bigger exhausts (more hot air out)
bigger injectors (more fuel in)
i know Jackson makes a supercharger
specifically for the SVTf...
etc.
how much bank should i have squirreled away
before i even consider getting started,
and what are the most fundamental mods
i should make
before considering anything more extreme?

The svtf are so well engineered that there is not much power to be gained from the basic bolt-ons that most other focus do. That said I would look into a K&N air filter or cold air intake, and maybe a tb. The exhaust is nice from the factory so no need to do any work there. Nothing else is really needed, the suspension is good and the stock stoppers are great.
If you want to go wild there is always FI, like n02, sc or turbo's.
do you happen to know anyone
who's tried the Jackson supercharger?
i read some good reviews
in generic car mags
but i tend to prefer "end user" experience
to the opinions of experts
for whom the bar for "hassle"
may be higher or lower than myself
(or some other average joe).

It's not a bad performance mod for the money. I would also look at the svtf Vortec unit, it is alittle more expensive but will produce more power than the jrsc unit. You could also look into turbo, my personal fav, Tom at focus-power has the best turbo kits for the svtf. There was also a artical in the newest Focus Fanatic mag about installing a vortec on a svtf.
Here's a link to Toms site if you want to check it out;
i also noticed you mentioned K&N by name,
do you consider their systems "better"
than something like the FocusSport Cool Flo?
the main company websites are blissfully free
of any kind of meaningful details ;>
(i found FS's Cool Flo first
since its a linked sponser on the focaljet site)

I'm not sure the fs cool flow intake works with the svtf. The intakes for the focus and svtf are different. The K&N panel filter flows better than the stock paper ones and it can be cleaned are reused.
The AEM cai for the svtf are nice, alittle pricey but nice. The only thing you have to woryr about is sucking up water. I think Volant has or is making an intake for the svtf, Blury posted about it here some where, I would look at that one. The Volant intakes are nice, I ran one for a while on my zx3.

Jonny Bolt wrote: Whatever you do, dont buy into to underhood open element air intakes/filters that pull 200 degree air into the engine. Biggest sham on the market lol.
would that caviat include or exclude
things like the K&N "Typhoon" system?

Yeah. I just dont understand how sucking in hot 200 degree air is beneficial, as opposed to a true "CAI" intake that pulls ambient 70 - 100 degree air from under the fenderwell. 10 degree air temp rise is -1% HP.

since this is most likely the first mod i'm going to make,
and would love to make in the next couple months,
could you recommend a specific system?

I use an AEM CAI. I got mine for like 245 almost 2 years ago. But there was a girl hear that used to sell em for a little under 200 dollars shipped. There are a few other CAI's that are good too.

if i got that,
i could go all NFS-Underground
and get the giant AEM side panel graphic.

LMAO! I have that game, but never play it. Actually, its not even installed on my machine anymore lol.
But I think the decal was good for 12hp, a tad more than the actual intake itself
i completed 90 out of 111 races
and got completely fed up.
i really don't understand modern games
and their concept of "challenging".
i never even got out of the first city
in Midnight Club II
because after literally 16 hours
of trying to beat the final LA race
i got sick of loosing by 0.5 seconds
and having to start all over again.

How I love racing games, they are a constant source of aggravation for me. Take GT3-A-Spec, it was near impossible to beat the F-1 car but for some reason I'm still looking forward to GT4. Who knows, it's probability a sickness.

I'm hoping you can transport some GT3 cars over to GT4 along with the liscences.. I wanna gring the Escudo Pikes Peak and the open wheel cars I got over.
As for the intakes the AEM or Bomz(Cheap AEM knock off) or the K&N or Volant getthe best raves.. Like anything it comes down to preferance and wallet size.
