so,
my baby is currently at The Shop
getting the stock air system put back in
(and getting the throttle body replaced).

so i'm back to square one,
and i've blown about 2 years worth of mod money
to get nowhere.

but i've priced out every other car i can think of
(and a lot i couldn't think of),
and i can't find anything else i'd rather own
that i can afford.

hopefully now that the car will be running well again,
for the first time in half a year,
i'll be able to fall in love with it all over again.

but i'm probably not going to be around here, much,
as its kind of depressing to not be able to play along.

thanks for all the help, folks.

Whadya mean you can't play along?

My car is stock - Well, mostly...engine and everything else.  I don't plan on doing anything to that right now.  Just dressing her up nice.

I'm sorry you've had problems.  What were you running for an intake?  Why did you have to go back to stock?  Have I missed something?:caution

AEM CAI (the long tube).

i'd ruined three throttle pressure sensors
and, apparently, the throttle body,
in just a few months,
without ever knowingly sucking in water.
just "road mist" on long drives in the rain
were destroying the car.
various precautions to avoid this were futile.

basically,
the more active i am here,
and the more i see everyone else's cars,
the longer my List gets,
and the less content i am with the car.
since i can't afford the List,
and i can't afford to replace the car,
that only option
is to take steps to shorten the List.

Sorry to hear this.

You can still be here and have your list just modify it a bit. Hell if you saw my list you'd think you just have a small note on a napkin. 3 of the exteriot mods I want to do add up to about $800 alone. I have a list of stuff to do and one thing on the list is another focus. Everyone has a long list of what they would like to have but we all realize that its all just a pipe dream andtake the car for what it is and how it is.

As for the intake situation did you ever get a bypass valve? Did you ever think about getting a short ram air? how bout somthing like the IceMan for the Zetec(stock routing with larger tube diameter)?? See there are many ways to getthings done but like all performance or lack of can be part of the price, but you got an SVT so its all good to start with...

HAAHAHAHA... Did I get you thinking...;devil

i'm not very good at being content
in the face of what i can't have.
that's just how i am.

as far as i'm concerned,
a short ram would be a step backwards.
the stock SVT intake pulls from the front grill.
so going to an intake that pulls in engine heat
doesn't make much sense to me.
also,
a fellow SVT owner with the same intake as mine
got his car dyno'd and discovered
that there was essentially no meaningful HP increase
(less than 5hp),
so,
given all the grief its causing me,
i decided it was easier to get rid of it.

the only exterior mods i'm interested in
are getting the HID lamps mine didn't come with,
which is about $1,000 unless i get them on eBay,
which from what i've seen, doesn't save -much-.

everything else i want to do is performance,
and after spending $2000 in the last few months
on a dented wheel, 4 new tires and these ongoing repairs,
there's no way i'm justifying the HID's or anything else
to my wife.

also,
more than anything,
i just need to fall in love with the car again
and not think of it as something that needs improving.

Have you seen the Euro headlights? Coroner19 has a thread "look what I just got" and there are pics of them in there. They are around $380 with all wiring you need to install. they also have the blacked out ones, basicly all chrome is black(except around the bulbs of course). The black ones are about $410. It just a thought. The HIDs are nice tho.

I just hope you like your car again and don't fall off the wagon again :D

i don't have $400 for headlights,
even if i liked them a tenth as much as the HID's,
which i don't.

the point is,
that i'm at a point in my life
where i can't justify spending $30 on the car,
let alone the $1,000's i want to spend,
so its just better to not think about it.

Sorry to hear about your troubles....I've had no problems (thank God) with my SVTF and the mods I have....Nothing wrong with a stock SVTF though...driver skill is one of the best mods for a car and that shouldn't cost much...Like someone on this site sig used to say..."It's not what you've got under the hood that matters but what's behind the steering wheel."  or something like that sorry to the person whose quote this is that I probably butchered...

for me its not about having the fastest car,
or even have a fast car.
its about having the car i want.
no compromises.

so,
for now,
that means learning to love what i have,
until i can afford to not compromise.

i got Sonic back yesterday,
and he's back to running like a champ.
today's a gorgeous day
and i've had a blast running some errands.

the romance has been re-kindled ;>
