Are the ECU's the same? For SVT and Zetec motors?  If I blow my motor and Need a new one and upgrade to a SVT one will the ECU need replacement or reflashing?

youll need the svt ecu and wiring. they are both obdII but the pinout is different. the svt motor uses some different sensors and such. like the variable runner intake solenoid, no egr, vct, etc. which wont work with the regular zetec ecu. theres more wiring involved also.

I think you would need teh SVT ecu and and SVT engine bay wiring harness.

Might be better to get a used Zetec engine and build the crap out of it. It would be new by the time you were bone with it and might spens a bit over what the crate SVT engine would be.

Actually, the ZETEC has more potential than the SVT ZETEC. The reason being: the SVT's VCT on the intake side causes drag on the drivetrain. It can actually cause you to lose a few ponies in a high-hp situation. Why do you think Honda race cars don't use VTEC? Because you don't need variable valve timing if you're only running high RPMs anyway. All VTEC / VCT does is change the valve timing between two different settings, one for low RPM and one for high RPMs.

actually the vct also serves another purpose....emissions. thats why there is no egr system on the svt motor.
and when the vct fails its costly. yeah, the solenoid is only 75. but the cam gear is 345...i know, mine went south.
