Yeah so I'm probably gonna open a can of worms, but here it goes...I just purchsed everything necessary to swap an SPI for an SVT for the purpose of Autocross, track, and possible road rally racing...:gofast

Anyone got any performance pearls of wisdom that they could offer?

you'll want the suspension.  you can buy a kit from ford with everything you need for SVT suspension for about $270 i think  heck of a deal if you ask me

I think I'm gonna stick with my H&R setup.  H&R coilovers, sway and strut bars, and I'm gonna get lakewood traction bars.  I do however gotta get SVT spindles and hubs for the brakes.  I wanna go Baer or SBC, whatcha'll think?

Either brakes would be good. Overall, I think it sounds like a pretty cool transformation. Awful lotta work, though.

If I forgot something I can got through the Guy I bought the engine from or http://www.focussalvage.com.  My team is gonna help me out with the swap.  I'm in Iraq right now, so unfortunatley I'll be looking at pics of the swap, not doing it myself.  I wanted to do it myself, but I won't be back in time for race season, so my boy Joe or Todd will race her in my place 'till I get back.  Hey R the coolant and heater hoses the same as the Zetec?

Some of the hoses are the same and some are differant. I know the SVT power steering pump and lines are diffeant because of the header. Also the SVT has VCT and no EGR system like the regular Zetec and the SPI. You might be able to just block your EGR on the exhaust manifold but I think the SPI manifold is completly differant so you might need the entire SVT exhaust also.

I have the entire SVT engine, The SPI is Scrap.  There will be nothing from the SPI on my car after I'm done.

Hey everybody,

Well, here's an update on the ProJect FUKUS;

First off I wanna say it's an insane amount of work!!!!  But it's worth it.  Currently We plumbed the Turbo, the Stage 3 clutch, and the Fidanza Flywheel.  We took out the old engine, and we're currently working on running the wires....Now here's the POOEY part - I can't start it up until I tow it to the German dealership and have them futz with the ECU, PATS and the Key (FREAKING fORD), so we won't know if we wired the gauges and accessories up right until then.  But I have a detailed rebuild on video and I might have pics lying around somewhere....But if ya'll have any questions...Feel free to ask.  But if you plan on doing this for all you 4 doors with the POS 1985 SPI Escort engine...make sure you have another car and about 4 months of spare time.  More to follow.

Oh I plan on running about 10lbs of boost minimum.  But I have a contact in a German tuning shop who built a 1985 Golf GTI with 500 BHP (brake horse power)who will tune the FUKUS when it's complete, so who knows maybe I'll push more....

Sorry, I forgot to ask an important question; where should I plumb the oil pressure sender?  If ya'll hooked up an A/F, oil pressure, or Boost gauge and still remember which wires you spliced into PLEASE help me do it right the first time.  Oh and the Tach adapter from Autometer... BTW I got most of my parts from Massive speed system.  They're awesome!!!!  They ship overseas to APO adresses, they have paypal accounts, and they're more than willing to help.

10psi is a little too much for an svt conxidering the compression ratio is 10.2
i'd stick with a max of 8psi.
lakewood traction bars wont work either sorry to say due to the header and trannt difference. the trac bars will hit these pieces.
dont waste your time with the a/f guage. it wont tell you a thing, but does make a nice light show. unless you have the wideband.
boost can be hooked into the piping anywhere downstream of the turbo. its nothing more than a small plastic line run to the guage.
oh, and you wasted your money on the tach adapter. pin 48 on the ecu is a clean tach signal ;). strip about 1/4 inch or so off the end of the wire, push it into the hole and tape it to other wires so it doesnt move, bolt the connector back to the ecu. (just did this on a friends to hook up his rpm window switch, works really nice).

i hope your using the svt harness and ecu. and the cars controll module that was in the car originally should work no prob, no need to have the pats and keys redone.

You serious about the PATS????????  Man you just made my day!!!!!  I got the passenger side wiring harness installed, and the SVT ECU is sittin on my floorboard.  You say downstream from the turbo....I'm assuming after the MAF and below the Throttlebody?  Do you know which PIN is the OIL pressure sensor?  My friend managed to lose the Driver's side harness, I'm still trying to figure out how....but anywho I'm gonna have to order another one.  I mean it's like 6 feet of wire with a big black fuse box on the end....How can you lose something like that?????  Dee Dee Dee!!  As for the 10 LBS of boost, I am going to put a copper head gasket which (in theory) should drop it down a point, and when I get back to the States, I'm rebuilding the block to handle way more than 10lbs.  But thanks for the info.  That's gonna help out a bunch.

actually anywhere between the bov and tb will work for the boost signal.
and yes from what ive found your original pats module should work no prob.

I'll do a little digging and see if i can find the pinout for oil pressure assuming its an electrical guage (please use electric not manual, it sucks cleaning the mess up inside if the line breaks...). if i cant find it theres a small threaded plug in the block near the oil filter that is good for the sensor to mount since it goes to an oil galley.
any other questions just ask away...:D

That plug's being used for the oil feed line.  Percision designed that feed line to go from that port, under the coil and to the turbo.  I got the 100 lb sending unit from Autometer, and I was going to T it in where the 2 oil feed lines join underneath the coil.  That way I can secure it to the coil mount, provided the PIN can't be found.  Also I'm hooking up the ApexI Turbo timer, but when I pulled the ignition wire, there's 5 wires, but I can only identify 2 of them in the manual.  Is there a detailed wiring scematic available for the Foci?  I got the Chiltons and Haynes manuals, but they only identify the 12 volt and the starter relay wires.
