What is involved in buying an inexpensive turbo kit for a Honda (or other import) and then installing it on a Focus? I can modify a neader with ease to brign the turbo to life, but I don't know what else would be involved.

could get more expensive than you think since piping would have to be modified, finding a kit with the proper size turbo, a way to mount an intercooler, exhaust modifications, etc....

You're best off just buying a Focus turbo system.

It's not really going to save you any money to get a system off another car and adapt it to the Focus, plus you probably won't see as good of power gains.

These Focus turbo systems are $3000 and I'm struggling to see the differences except a manifold that would be very simple to fab. Not that I'm discounting your thoguhts, but coming from the off-roading world I'd rather spend $300 for the complete Honda kit (same turbo size) knowing that I'd have to modify it.

I won't be doing this for a while now since I'm shifting back toward finishing my 69 Bronco for Spring time. Next summer this turbo could be a great project.

Anyone seen a Ford Probe 6cyl in a Focus?

I've seen a video of a ZX3 with a 351ci V8 converted to rear wheel drive and I heard there are like 8 V8 Focuses in the US. They just had one up on eBay for sale.

basically you'd be better off just putting together your own "kit" so to speak. You would need the following: a turbo (t3-t4-or mitsu style flange) a manifold (exhaust), costom charge and exhaust piping, a blow off/bypass valve, maybe a wastegate (if the turbo is not internally gated), an intercooler, a boost controller (manual or otherwise), pretty much a whole new fuel system- you need a pump that can handle the extra load, injectors that will provide you some cushion (read larger), a AFPR-adjustable fuel pressure regulator with a 1 to1 rising rate, a flash or a piggyback computer, or something to allot for the bigger injectors, as well as timing control, oil lines, coolant lines if applicable, probably a new mas or maf(ideally you'd want to run a MAP system, though idle may suffer), possibly water or Alky injection, (to keep the knock down), and a host of fabrication...i think thats about it.

You can pick up used Mitsu style turbos for cheap, and they are very well suited to the 2.0L motor. for example: a mitsu TD05 Evo III 16G can support roughly 380 HP, and will spool to full boost (10-25psi, depending on where you set it) right around 3K rpm. The smaller 14B that came stock on all manual first generation DSM's will support close to 300hp, and will spool a bit quicker. the second generation DSM's came with a T-25 that is a bit smaller than the 14B, and will support a bit less hp, but will again spool a bit quicker. the spool is very important especially when it comes to a DD or auto X setup...

It would really not be worth modifying a kit made for a completely different car.  You would be better off making a custom turbo kit, or buying a new/used turbo kit specifically for the focus.
