Well after running around on the cords of my Falken Azenis I bought some more.. This time I went with new 15" rims and Azenis tires.  For AutoX the 15"s are tight and its cost concious for people like me who go through a set a tires every 6 months.  I hope they go well with my new WRC body kit. I post some pics as soon I get my shit together! :fu

RU,

Since you're still running 15" rims and tires did you drop/lower your Focus. I have an '05 and just put new rims on it and now it looks like too much fender well is showing. Everything is still stock. I guess it's  an optical illusion because I never noticed this with OEM rims tires and hubcaps. Suggestions other than new springs+re-alignment+labor= in the $500 range. Is this a correct to only lower car by 1 inch? Thanks in advance.

JT.. The SVT suspension will give you the "about" 1 inch drop your looking for. $300 for the kit and $200 or less in labor and 4 wheel alignemt will/should be about $60-$70..

fx3,

I'm not real sure how much I want to drop it. I imagine the lower you go the stiffer the ride will be. Correct? Thanks for your input.

yes JT - but the SVT suspension on a stocker focus will give you a stiffer, but still comfortable ride.

just stay away from urathane bushings like fx3 did.  That stiffens it even more...and they squeak.

i think one of the most economic and nice looking drops is from the SVT suspension.  Not to mention if you still have any warranty, they can try and argue a problem with that, but it's an eom part.

I've got the SVT suspension on mine, It still rides very very nice, while at the same time giving you a nice enough drop and very good handling. I'll get some pictures and post it up (it has 17's on it, so you'll have to imagine it with 15's)

RPIJG,

I've been thinking about my situation. I think D.T. would take the rims back if I was to upsize rims to 16"/17" and buy new tires. Would this solve my problem (too much wheel well showing) w/o having to lower car w/new springs? I really don't care to drop car. Any pros/Cons if I go to the bigger rims and tires other than price?

As far as upsizing... The stock rubber on a 15 and 16 are sized so that the total height is verry similar to one another. You may have the same fender gap with 16's and stock size rubber. Going to a 55 on the 16's will give you a little more sidewall but would be a bit skittier.

You have probably already seen this but check out this tire size calculator to see the differance in overall size of 2 tires side by side http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

And the focus is known for its stock off road appearance...

Just getting bigger wheels won't get rid of the wheel gap, and in some cases it will actually make the car look lifted because of the optical illusion in creates. The only way to decrease wheel gap is to lower the car a bit, or go with bigger tires. Bigger tires obviously gets rid of any type of sport look as the sidewalls would get increasingly larger.

What size tires have you got? Mine are 205/45/17, I think they look good, I'd be scared going any lower than a 40 though.
