I see in many pictures that there are some Foci with some really dark tint on the driver and passenger side windows.

My question? I know laws are different in other states, but here in So-Cal cops get pretty pissed off when they can't see you inside your car. Have any of you with that awesome looking, yet cop attracting tint run into any problems with the law?

I have the maroonish (apologies for not knowing the exact color name) colored ZX3 and I think it would look hotter than hot with some fairly dark tinting, but I am highly worried about the tickets I could be getting with it.

Thanks,

Chalz

Here in Illinois, same laws, u can tint your sides , as long as they r light and the cop can see u, but the back u can have very very dark, they don't care. U just have 2 ask your local polcie station 4 the law on that, they will help u.

It all depends on state. Some states don't car, others have stricter laws. Maine allows 50% tint or no more than 35% on all windows. A cop can meter your window if you don't have your certificate of light transmittance with you, if his meter comes up less than 35% he can make you peel it right there.

The other day when I tried to get a sticker in Maine.  The shop had a meter and mine read 3% more than it should because of the factory tint plus what I put on..even though I had a certificate they would not pass me.  I went to another shop that did not have the meter and produced my certificate and they passed me no questions asked..

what did it read? because if they read say 47% and wouldn't pass you that's a load of bologna. They are supposed to allow anything above 35% to pass, while the limit reads 50%. This is because of factory variations.

I'm not sure what it read other then it was a little bit off and even with the +or- 3% or whatever, they would not pass it.  They contacted someone in the State Police they know and he said it shouldn't pass..which is pretty normal....Anyway I got it inspected no problem when I had another shop install my stock SVT rims and snow tires.

Tint laws are very controversial country wide.

Maine, I know they are cracking down VERY hard on motor vehicle modification violations.  One of my father's long time friends who owns a shop on Forest Ave. in Portland lost his right to do inspections for the rest of his life!  This unfortunately is not a joke.  This guy lost it due to exhaust mods, but can hold true with tint modification.

New Hampshire - You cannot tint the front two windows at all.  Rear and rear sides on a passenger car can only meter 35% total light transmittance.  This is the total amount of light that is able to enter the vehicle.  Mine metered 27 when I went to get my sticker.  I failed and had to go to another place.  Thankfully Jonny has a great resource there.

I would check your state's DMV laws for exactly what you can and cannot do.

State Police as well as local have no quams in my area telling you to rip off your tint.  They love it.

You know what all this reminds me that i have to get my car inspected... sonofabitch!! Gonna have to get that place in Hampton from Jonny... and SOON!!

As for Cali tint laws... you should be able to research that up pretty easy, there are a couple of site out there

I did a fast check and it looks like on the front side you can have 70% and anything else on the rear sides and back. Probably nothing on the windshield

here are some sites:

http://www.tintdude.com/laws.html

http://home.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/tint_ca.html

I hope that helps :)
