Soooo. As most of you know, my car was broken into last October. MY mom wanted an alarm put in my car and one of the girls I worked with, had her dad do it. Thats what he used to do for a living. Well, the beginning of last year Fx3 installed my stock fog lights. I didnt get them with the car, and I couldnt be without them.

Basically, the alarm got installed and the guy must have been busy with his head up his butt bc he cut my fog light harness ! He came back to "fix" it, when he did, I couldnt turnmy fog lights off.. he wired them to the parking lights.

He came back again to "fix" the problem. When I tried the lights that day one worked, one bulb was blown. Ok, so I got new bulbs, then they didnt work... confusion? very much so. I have been waiting for a set of bulbs that were on back order so this is an ongoing problem for the past ohhhhhh, 2.5 months? since the beginning.

Here's the problem. I took a look at the wiring today. The fog light wires are black, red and theres a green one too... does anyone know what the green one would be for? I know that sometimes colors dont mean anything.. but im looking for an answer. I re- wired the two he had done to make sure there was a solid connection, sure enough, there wasnt. I turned the key to the accesory position and the fogs worked! Thinking I had solved the problem, i turned the key to the "on" position.. THEY SHUT OFF!!!! What would cause this ? I'm trying to avoid bringing the car to someone to have them look at it if its a simple fix...

TF ... help me!

Ok from what I see on my Foci, there is only a green with white stripe wire and a black one. To me this dude did a ghetto ass wiring by installing a red wire to your fog lights maybe to flash when activating your alarm. I believe that red wire is messing up your fogs.

the only reason I know that red one belongs is bc its with the other two wires. And you can tell he didnt add it bc when  he was installing the alarm, i was told after that he  "didnt know what they went to" so thats why he cut it

Basically, this is the biggest mistake I have ever made...

Yea my fogs came factory, that's why I told you there should only be green and black. The green should be your positive and the black should be your negative. I have no clue why do you have a red wire, are you sure its not spliced to the green as an add-on? The red wire must be what the guy added to your fods, because I see no red wires headed to the fogs.

That's the problem, he removed the green wire to let the red take its place, leaving you w/o fog lights. Converting your fogs to alarm signal lights.

Take a look and try to figure out where the red wire leads to, that dumbnut did something weird. Do you have a way to read if electricity is running to the fogs green wire?

Do your fogs have the wire harness socket? If the black is on one side, remove where the red is at and replace it with the green, just forget about the red wire that's your headache there and replace it with your green wire.

You tell me, does the fogs flash when you activate the alarm? If it does, what he did is replace your fogs as a signal of alarm activation.

Well if he didn't damage your green wire, that should supply the power from the switch. If you have a light tester, turn on the fog switch and read to see if the green wire gets power to run at it. I'm not sure if want to do this but if you do, cut the red wire and connect the green to the red that runs to the fog and turn on the switch to see if it goes on.

according to my wiring diagrams, the red is what is messing you up. At the lights, there should be one black ground wire and a green/white wire that goes to the fog lamp relay.  the red wire sounds like sopme kind of add on crap your installer spliced in to make them flash with the alarm. you could try splicing the green white into the red wire. theoretically it would make the lights work normally and retain the flash feature of the alarm.

this is the reason why i have given up on going to school to be a licensed elcetrician..too much mental mapping and looking at multi-color wires.  i do simple things, like red-red, black-black, black w/ white stripe-black w/ white stripe...start throwin greens and blues and purples and oranges..:caution

Guys... One big problem with all this.

Her car DID NOT come with fogs and I installed the fog wiring harness that ford supplied. I had to take a wire out of the head light connector and replace it with a wire from the new harness and there was another wire I had to tap into for the new harness. The rest was all just running wire to the fogs. How he got the fogs to work off the parking lights is beond me but it does tell me he had no clue what he was doing and just started cutting wires and/or removing wires.

Tiff do you still have the wireing diagram from the install of the fogs???? If so that should help greatly in solving the problem.

Dan, off the top of your head, do you remember how many wires and what colors they were that YOU added when we did the install ?

There are three coming through the firewall,t he black, red, and green, im starting to wonder if those are for the alarm? I need to check this out more...
