Sorry if I offend anyone... but it's late, I've had a rough night at work, and I need a soapbox...:blah

CF is used on race cars because it's lightweight, strong, and can be molded as easily as fiberglass. Ever notice, though, that CF on real race cars isn't left CF colored? It's painted to match the rest of the car! Mirrors, trim, stuff like that... fine, it may or may not be unpainted. But body panels, such as hoods, fenders, etc, get painted!

CF on "import style" cars isn't used for the same reason. It's used as a styling effect. Why? It's UGLY! Real CF is ugly! It's like bare metal, or bare fiberglass gelcoat... or any other "unfinished" surface. UGLY!

I want a CF hood for my Focus. Why? Because it's light. Believe me when I tell you that if I get one, it will be painted to match the rest of my car, not left for the "look".

It irks me when people do something to make their car "more like a race car" and actually make it like less of a race car. Like big spoilers, non-functional scoops, and, yes, carbon-fiber-look stuff. Grrr! If you want your car to be more like a real race car, pay attention to what the real race cars are like!

Stepping off the soapbox...

Personally I thought the same thing until I saw a carbon fiber hood in person. After that I thought it looked great. If I had one I wouldn't paint it.

CFX makes the most beautiful V-weave carbon fiber hood you will ever see, it would be a shame to paint over it.

I agree with you to a certian extent, when I get my cf hood I will paint it to match the car.  But what other people do with the styling of their own car is their own taste.

The V-weave is gorgeous... I was really torn whether to get that one, but in the end I went with the traditional route.

I considered painting mine, but then a) it's a boatload more money to paint on top of the hood's cost and b) once I got it on the car, I kinda like it that way. I don't like the fake CF look, but leaving real CF in its UV-coated natural form can look real nice on certain colors, and I think it compliments my wheels on top of being Significantly lighter than my old hood!

But I definitely see how some people wouldn't like it, and everyone's entitled to their opinion... if somebody else bought me my CF hood and told me to paint it it'd be done like THAT... but it's my car, so it stays put and I think it looks sweet:)

I like both, but when I get my new CF hood I am painting it, and of course these fiberglass fenders that I have.

Anyway I like it and like Rick said. :fu

Hahahahaha kidding! ;):P:P:P:P:P:P:P

I know my post is very opinionated. It's meant to be. And I don't mean for anyone to go rush paint their hood because of what I think. Just stating my opinion.

I just think the CF look has gone too far. CF stickers, CF wings... as if the aluminum ones weren't ugly enough! Everyone wants CF because of the look. Fiberglass was never left plain because it looked cool.

I guess what sparked this is my watching the JDM stuff and how the US copies it. CF-look started being big in Japan a while back, and now it's big here. Vinyl graphics (another no-no IMO) were big over there until recenly. Now, they see we're copying them again, and they're back to painting their cars instead of decalling them. Their cars are being done the right way! No CF-look... no decals... paint and lightweight parts.

I'm tired of everyone wanting to be like JDM. I don't want to be- I want to show them how it's done! Let's take back the American art of modding cars and show the other continents how it's done instead of copying off them.

Like my new Av.? :P :wave :banned

Carmen- long before you'd even heard of TF... like... 2 years ago, the members (Myself, Rick, Jonny B, ZX34ME, Chelly) discussed wether or not Rick would actually ban someone (besides trolls or true board menaces).

After a vote, we had pretty much all voted that Rick is soft-hearted and it would truly be an act of God for him to ban someone for no REAL good reason.

Rick knows I mean no harm when I get on a soapbox. I'm a soapbox kind of person. Every so often I get aggrivated and vent about something. Usually, a very opinionated vent. I don't actually expect anyone to change their views because of what I say (or, type, rather). All I'm doing is getting my ideas out there, and if someone likes them they're free to back me up, or say tha\t they feel the same.

At the same time, I don't care to hear other's opinions. Who knows, it might make sense and change my POV on something.

Moral of the story: Rick's a softie and I talk too much.

I'm so much a newb, I don't know if I should even say anything but I'm a member so I will.

This is similar to a thread about how normal you are. A person's taste in what he/she does to their car, is a very relative point of view when it comes to modifications of their rides. A young person (in most cases is making a statement of what is cool to them) and wants to be noticed and stand out as an individual among his/her peers. It's the same with a man having a mid life crisis and goes out and buys an expensive sports car or Harley, he just trying to boost his self esteem due to, it's expected that he should be conservative but wants to be noticed and see if he's still got it, if not single, he'll be divorced before long probably. Any who, tastes differ from age to ethniticity and  people should respect that we all want to be noticed and respected for what we are and what we think is cool. I'd like a Vette but can't afford one, my best friend from high school has a '67 Corvette Stingray Convertible that's in show room condition, needless to say I'm pretty envious but he's a doctor and I'm not but I'm happy for him. So here you go Dr. Dave :fu, he'd expect something like that from me.

ever seen carbon fiber painted?  looks like ass...carbon fiber looks very pretty unless you buy some sweatshop ass hood.  i do however believe that a car should match so everything should be carbon fiber and you should have more than stock parts.....something to at least run 11's or your gay for owning carbon fiber parts unless your repairing a wreck anf the cf parts are cheaper than metal.

Never been called rice, but hey that's fine by me. I love the way my car looks.
I have my CF hood (and door sills :p) white faced guages, bomz intake, vibrant exhaust, enkei cdr9s(16s), H&R springs, Eibach shocks, an S2 wing, and a baby seat in the back. :)
Here's a super blurry pic

Also have a white Civic sedan with a CF hood. Umm.. how about it being boosted? Is that good enough for it to have a CF hood? (rolleyes)

the other Civic doesn't have anything CF yet.

BTW- my car doesn't have any of the modifications it has because I want it to be more like a "race car" I just want it to be a more fun kid hauler. :P

I just think people buy CF for the wrong reasons... for looks instead of for performance. Which doesn't make much sense. Real race cars are painted.

I don't care if your car is stock or a balls-to-the-wall race car, CF should be about performance, not looks. Especially because it doesn't LOOK good. CF should be used because it's light and strong, not because it's pretty.

You wouldn't put a red hood on a green car for looks.

I don't see why gel-coated CF would look any different than any other surface when it's painted. It's smooth, just like 'glass or metal.

I don't think having any of those things (fart can, neons, foglights, etc) makes you gay or rice. What makes you so IMO is believing that by having them you're making your car special. Anyone can slap on an aftermarket exhaust, a set of neons or foglights...
