Ok, so I'm not sure where to put this, figured Exterior fits as well as anywhere.

So I think my little Focus's next mod shall be tint... then maybe we
will get some summer weather here in RI! So of course, being that I'm
thinking about tint, dark windows are ALL I can see, everywhere I go! My latest
object of interest is my mom's '04 Escape Limited. This truckster is
beautiful, all loaded and black, and its got some crazy stock privacy
glass on the rear windows, and I think moonroof!

I was eyeing it today and thought it looks just about perfect as a
combo of blocking light and curious eyes, but it's definitely not Limo,
and can be seen out of at night if you're backing up and stuff. The
point of this rambling post, is a question:

Does anyone know what light transmittance is on this lovely privacy glass?!

I tried looking on escape-central.com but couldn't find an answer, and
I thought of maybe calling a big local dealer and asking if they knew
(parts dept maybe?). My other thought was to drive to a tint place with
the Scape and see if they have one of those "meters" or could tell me
what the % is.

I'm kinda torn on whether to do the Focus all 35% (no windshield/sunstrip), all
20% or 20 on the rear and 35 on the 2 front retractable windows (ZX3).
RI's laws are dumb and I think we're allowed 70% on the back and
nothing on the fronts, so obviously I'm going illegal no matter what.:banned

Any insight, either on what would look nice on the Focus (TwiBlue), or if you
happen to know the Escape trivia bonus question... you can have a cookie! I know we might have some
multi-Ford families or tint people here?

Ya, RI tint laws are wicked gay.  I got mine done, 70% in the rear
and front.  I was going to go darker but know alot of people who
the po-po's have busted for darker than legal tint, many of them are
fellow TFNE'ers.  Cars that come fom the factory with darker than
legal tint is OK but the aftermarket tint % they do inforce.  It
might also mess with your inspections, but I'm not sure.
You could probility get away with the rear windows tinted darker than legal and no tint on the fronts.

I don't know about the laws, but I agree with you that the privacy glass is ideal. I had an Explorer that had privacy glass, & it was the perfect tint, IMO. I don't know where you can get it though.;:what

Well, if you want to spend all that money on sexy tint, brace yourself when you get pulled over and the cop makes you peel it off...that will sting the wallet.

Also, you probably will fail inspection if you go below the state limits...I highly suggest you get it done to legal levels as you don't want to have to pay for something you'll have to peel off later.

Sorry hun, wish I could help ya!

Yeah, well I went with 20 all around. It was a tough decision, I was torn between all 35 or all 20 up until the moment the tint man at the counter asked what I wanted. Nothing is legal in RI, well 70% is and no places I know of sell that (because it's Nothing) so anything's illegal.

Of course, now I'm moving to WV and their limit is 35 (+/- 3% I think), so that woulda been legal, but I didn't know when the car got done up. So I'll have to pass WV Inspections, as my car's never been inspected in RI, I haven't had to deal with that yet. From what I can tell off their website their emissions are real lenient, but they want 35 and up on tint. So I'll have to find a shop with a "faulty' tintmeter...

It's worth it though, it looks damn good. I've driven past a bunch of cops and they haven't even glanced my way. I figure they'll let me be as long as I'm not flying past, or unless I just happen to pass a cop in a bad mood. Ah well, ya pay to play. If the WV cops seem strict and want me to pull it, I'll go for the 35, but until then I'll cruise around with my 20.
