Soup It Up
Kits add zip to Ford Focus

By Larry Edsall / Special to The Detroit News

Do you like the aggressive look of the Ford Focus SVT?

Now you can get that and even more radical styling for your basic production Focus. Body kits and high-performance upgrades — including a V-8 engine transplant — fill the pages of a new 36-page “Fast Focus” catalog from Ford Racing Performance Parts.

Ford Motor Co.’s Dearborn-based racing parts division worked with the company’s Special Vehicle Team as well as Ford of Europe, Cosworth Racing and several leading accessory and custom components suppliers to develop high-performance and appearance parts that fit the more than one million Focus vehicles currently on the road.

All of the parts that accent the styling of the Focus SVT are available, as are many sizes and styles of wheels, a Jackson Racing supercharger kit, Borla exhausts, Iceman cool air systems and many other components that boost the performance of the four-cylinder Focus engines.

There’s even a kit developed with Kugel Komponents of La Habra, Calif., that converts the four-cylinder, front-drive Focus into a V-8-powered, rear-drive mini monster.

“The Ford Focus is the only domestic-branded sport compact car that competes, and wins, in the World Rally Championship,” Ford racing performance parts manager Jamie Allison noted in unveiling the new parts recently in Los Angeles.

Ford worked with Wings West of Santa Ana, Calif., to develop body panels that give a street-legal Focus the look of a racing rally car. Pre-painted in factory colors, a fender flare costs $75, a rear fascia runs $399 or an entire kit with front and rear fascias, front and rear fender flares and a huge rear wing costs $1,299.

For more information, visit the Ford Racing parts Web site at http://www.fordracingparts.com, where you can find a list of retailers that sell the parts.

For a closer look at the Wings West kit, visit http://www.wingswest .com. Also featured in the catalog is a wicked sport compact body kit from American Products Co., whose Web site is http://www.AmericanProductsCompany.com.

For questions about which parts best fit your Focus, call Ford’s technical hot line at (586) 468-1356

Well now, I like the looks of most of this, minus the spoiler.

I suggest to anyone, to check out the catalog before dissing the look.

I like it too, minus that ridiculous spoiler. I'd have a prob putting all that lettering on my car. I don't know if that's part of the kit or not, but it's definitely something I could do without.

Actually Mr. V, the kit comes solid color, no decals.  I'm not sure, but I didn't notice anything in the catalog re: the decals.

Thus the reason I mentioned having a peek in the catalog before placing a virdict on the kit.  Looks real clean and nice without the decals...even though those are cool too.

Not bad, just alittle over the top for my tastes.

Well, I like the body kit a lot. Maybe I could use the spoiler to hang my clothes on, while they're drying.  :D

I think I'm gonna pick up one of those 135 buck kits from Ford. Nice and subtle.

Ground Effects

now,
i've been quoted elsewhere
as being pretty down on big spoilers.
but,
while the SVT and RS8 sport modest spoilers,
the models raced in the WRC
sport big wings much like those in the image, there.

if i were more than a casual rally fan,
i might very much want to mimick that look,
especially if i wanted to get into rallycross
or some other level of amateur rallying.

just a thought.

i'm trying to,
but the javascript is broken,
and it won't launch, download or view.
maybe it works in M$IE,
but Firefox just throws a js error to the console.
