So, who's good at Fiberglassin'?

To the right of my gauge cluster is that retahdid dish/cup thing that doesn't hold anything.  Well, I'm thinking about getting a 2-5/8" tach from Autometer and putting it in there, problem with that is, the hole isn't round, and well....the tach is, so I'm thinking the best way to make it look seamless is to fibahglass that bitch in theyah.  Course I don't fibahglass at all, and was wondering if anyone knew who did, and if they'd work with me on this possibly, or even if they had any ideas.

seen it done with just bondo before.

fiberglass is easy. cut the bezel so the coin tray is no longer there. glue some cotton in the triangle hole, lay the fiber up on it, tap the resin in with the brush. make a few layers, let dry, sand down, bondo, sand, primer paint. Oh yeah, cut a hole in there somewhere too. lol. if you want to get fancy, we can make a mold and gel coat it.

Thanks all for the response :)

Jeremy, I'll let you know what happens.  Pokes I'd love to see some pictures.  I've been thinking about this for a while, one thing that has also crossed my mind, since I'm going to be doing some work on this thing already, would it make sense to paint it to match the car at the same time?

If you are going to fiberglass the seround and not paint it it will look out of wack and hacked even if it is not. and you may also be useing dome bondo to smoth the finish and that stuff is pink/red. Best time to paint is when its out also..

so then my next thought is this...

Do I want to color match it, or do I just want to paint it flat black to look more or less like stock?

Joar, I have one almost done. I'd be willing to let is go for a small price. Only one problem though, it's for a 2" gauge. Let me know if you are interested.:D

OMFG!!! I can;t believe someone remembers this!!! Not to jack the post, but god I cant stop laughing!! CLASSIC!!

I definatly think you should paint it while its out. Since you dont have any  other interior pieces painted then maybe you might want to stick with black?? Or perhaps make the project a little bigger and paint some other pieces and color match them?

Well, I'm going to stick with the larger tach, I've seen some of the 2 1/16 tachs and frankly at that size, I'm not sure why someone would even want one, when 3K and 4K are so close together they could be each other...I don't know.  I think that a slightly bigger one will work, I'll keep that in mind though mikey, I may be able to take it and just make the hole bigger.

If you want maybe I could try to bore the hole out some more. Only if you are interested though. Remember, I have a lot of time invested into this, so I don't wanna go screwing it up for nothing. Just let me kno how interested you are and I'll see what happens.;)

I guess how interested I am will depend on how much you want ;)  Shoot me a pm with what you are looking for.  I don't to waste your time and effort on this either.  So we'll see if we are in the same ballpark about this and then go from there.  How does that sound?
