Ok, as some of you might know, my car was broken into last night in my home parking lot. Nothing major was stolen except for over 100 CD's.. those can be replaced. Everything was emptied from the glove box and center console and I think they were probably looking for a trunk button of sorts.

My next investment is going to be an alarm system. I'm not rich so I need your help in chosing one thats right. So any ideas and suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

An alarm is in alarm...options are the the thing that differs,  look for one that has two way paging.  Astra 777 will be great ...a guy i know sells them for $70 dollars a pop.....all you need is an Proximity sensor/Radar Sensor to create a shield aroeund the car.....so maybe 125 or less with shipping.

got to http://www.splbassx.com/forums and PM T-rex...he's a sponsor....then find an installer....

:)

Im pretty sure that the 2 way paging thing is that if the alarm goes off, there is something that tells you that it is going off. You have to think in a lot of cases the alarm will go off, but if you are like in the mall or something, you dont know its going off. In this day and age of car alarms coming on lots of cars most people dont pay much attention to them anymore, so its best you know what is going on.

Finding an installer wont be a problem. Im sure there are lots of people on here that can do it for ya and if not I can try to get Bryan for ya... thats what his old job was... installin LOTS of alarms.

I think saying an alarm is an alarm is a bit unjust. That's like saying a car is a car.

All alarms offer different levels of protection. Different levels of ability to provide such protection. And certainly allowing different levels of compatibility.

I don't particularly trust some of the quasi-brands out there, and I go with well-reviewed companies.

Viper is my preference, and to dispute their reputation is fool-hardy, they have long been the leader in car alarm systems.

Well, sorry if this doesn't help, but our local system store, they install the Viper with remote start, keyless entry and all that goody stuff for only $300. That's including the installation. Maybe look around and check your local system stores. Sorry about your car, damn fucking people. :banned

No really....all alarms are the same.......granted some have more features than others.....BUT if you find three different brands of alarm with teh same features ..it will have the same board....as another....Viper..Made by DEI..Directed Electronics....makes/owns.....Avital, Clifford, Hornet, Python, etc.........But some Chinese sweat shop makes all the circuit boards for the inards.....then those circuit boards are put in different plastic boxes with...Commamdo, Viper etc wriiten on the box:)

they all work the same way man.

As far as Paging.....yes the pager alerts oyou to break in, door open, trunk open hood open etc and "goes off" when the alarm is set.......

Radar sensor is hooked up it detects MOVEMENT not VIBRATION liek a shock sensor will.....

DEI(directed) isnt the only company that makes alarms. Im pretty sure other companies use different boards and what not.

Radar sensor is hooked up it detects MOVEMENT not VIBRATION liek a shock sensor will.....

These 2 features are kind of a mixed blessing. The pagers have a fairly limited range. They will rarely notify you if your car is 1/4 mile or more away. Some are limited to 100 yards. So if you're in a mall, or have to park in South BFE at your friends apt., you might never get the message. Another downside is that you get paged, run out to your car at 2:30 AM, and find a couple of guys with guns messing with your car.

The radar thingy sounds good, but if you're parked at the mall, or at work and someone walks by your car & gets a little too close....guess what? Ditto for dogs & cats. I think 2 things might happen: 1. You're going to get reat tired of your alarm going off & having to get dressed, go outside & reset it. 2. Your neighbors are going to get real tired of your .........

Having decent security sometimes involves having fewer freedoms and/or more inconvenience. For instance, have you flown recently?

pagers go 2000 ft+  ....Ive NEVER not been out of Range at a mall or BFE......besides the pager alerts you when you go outta range on newer paging systems....older ones you can press a confirmation button and if you get no response your out of range....

The radar is adjustable to a point where it only goes off once some INSIDE THE CAR....its more useful on jeeps though with the softtop.

now..Your freedoms are at YOU and YOUR INSTALLERS discretion........these things are adjustable and reliable.

Just cause your neighbors alarm isnt adjusted correctly doesnt mean all alarms are bad....

BTW your right about the thugs with guns bit.....but most noncarjacking vehicle breakins are by punk kids and crackheads.....so call the police with a great desription you get of the perpertratiors whiel you watch from your home.
