Ever since my daughter was born, Ive been thinking about how to make rear A/C in the Focus. After studying the A/C system, I think it wont be too hard to branch off the main tree and run two vents back thru the headliner and over the back seat. I thought of putting in a valve to turn the rear off and on to fight the pressure drop but I think I'll settle for just turning up the A/c more. I need to look at the roof with the headliner off but I think if not there than maybe I can fiberglass some ducts running paralel to the pilars and give it a professional look. Think it can be done?

I was thinking some more about it and I think this will be the easiest way. I'll get some 2.5" clear plastic hose from the hardware store. I'll also need another A/C tree, 2 stock vents, some fiberglass, bondo, and hose clamps.

Im thinking that I'll modify the tree to have another port. I'll cut a hole and braze in another rubber branch that I can clamp the clear hose to. Then I can run the hose thru the center console and fiberglass the two vents on the back of the thing. Bondo the whole piece, sand, and paint. Might even add a butterfly valve for quick disconnect when no-one is in the back seat. Gonna take out the center console tonight and see if I have room or Im gonna have to hack and slash the console.

Do it up man. All you need to do is make the ducting smaller as you move back. Do it in steps. This will help with the pressure drop.

The center console will be a little tight, but I'd think that would be the best way to go.  Can't really see any problem with doing it other than the tight space issue.

Aren't you the good dad!

Well, I started ripping things apart last night and I figured out how to do it. Its even easier than I thought. Minor fiberglass work and 20$ for vents and tubes and I'll be done. Gonna get started monday!

Hi TXFO
I read through this and had to laugh. I have a daughter too. Now you are tearing your car apart for her. Just wait a few years.
Good luck with the modification. Take pics.

Just go tback from the industrial supply store. Big time score! This is gonna be a really easy, really nice project. If it werent for having to work the weekend, Id be almost done with it! The focus air system and center console are perfect for this mod. I'll have pics up real soon once I get started.

question - I was talking to some work friends and they were interested in doping this to their cars. I'm planning on helping a friend do this to a neon next. If I were able to make a simple bolt on kit for this, would anyone be interested in buyin? This isnt a comitment or anything mind you, just market research. Would this be a mod anyone would buy if it was say under 100 bucks and strictly snap together?

I've had my car almost 2 years to the day. No one has ever been in the rear seat.

im a ac guy but in buildings yes u will for sure want to use small ducting and last maybe 6 10 inches before register u can step down. careful on long runs u will find that u wont b happy with air pressure ur receiving. i wud most diffently but dampers in the new ducts, and perhaps connect up ducting so it comes on in (example) bi-level only and use ducting that goes to ur feet for new ducts eliminate the feet cooling ducts extend them to ur new location. just an idea though. but when u add new runs to a balenced system it screws up the air flow.;spimalthough let me know how it all turn out w/pics
