from now on I decree that no money will be spent on my car for any reason other than absolute pure necessity. The fucking ball joints can just go to hell untill they seperate on the highway at 80mph. I wont buy new springs even though one tire rubs. If it goes than Ill replace it with a Maypop* tire. These are the things which money will be spent on henceforth: food, rent, utilities, gas, emergencies. thats it. If the wife dont like it she can get a job. And now the back story.................
My car has the same bad VSS it had for almost a year now. screw ford and their shitty designs. So after two consecutive trips where the sensor output falls off, a CEL will trip and my ECU goes into special ed mode. Alot of my power comes from the ECU tuning so this really kills me. Its like driving a stock zetec. I cant flash the ECU to ignore the VSS because it would throw off the engine logic and might really screw me if something bad happens. So Im stuck with it. I hate driving my slow ass car. I hate getting whooped at the on ramp by chevy astros. So no more playing around. I'm buying a built zetec motor and a nice size FI kit for it. probablly turbo since the numptys in the FI forum keep tempting me with it. Since Im going from SPI, it will likely cost me anywhere from 5K to 10K bucks to pull this off. Since my job isnt going to give me a raise or anything, it means saving and scrimping, and working massive amounts of overtime at a job I hate more than VH1. Im just gonna start buying pieces as soon as I get the cash and letting them collect in my storage shed untill I have enough parts to make a complete powertrain. So from now on no money will be spent unless absolutely necessary.
Oh yeah, my jobs sucks bad and I want to slaughter every last sheep in here. May the fire bringer visit them all tonight with his flaming sword of death.
*Maypop tires - Dont cut em too close cause these bitches may pop.
I do have one question though. Why don't you find a new job? You seen like a very intelegent person with a EE degree (EE right?) and you should be able to find a better job elsewhere...even if you have to move a little bit.
I forgot to add that beer will also be bought. beer is a necessity. However it will only be cheap beer.
Eric, the reason I dont get a new job is because I dont want to leave San Antonio. This city is about 80% tourism and 18% military. the other 2% is other. So finding an engineering job here is a real pain. If I was a CAD drafter it would be better. (CAD = crayon aided drafting) Even if I did find another job, it would likely pay less. I make more than most of my coworkers and a new job would likely pay less. Untill Toyota is ready to take applications, its the evil Motorola for me.
Its ok though. my car is paid off soona nd that will free up 300 a month. If I can save 600 a month, I will have 8K in a year. that should pay for everything I hope. I talked to Gerry from Kansas racing products............ If I puss out and get a stock zetec instead of built, its only 1K.
I also keep thinking that fo 8K I can buy a race ready mustang V8 that'll put out double what a turbo focus will. But.............. I hate being like everyone else. (sorry Jonny)

AMEN!!!!
I would score a late 90's Cobra, or even a 93 Cobra (one of the Teal ones) and B U I L D.
Either way, sounds like a cool project. Are you sure you want to stay with the 4 banger action? Beer and car projects rule.
Believe me, I thought about getting a used V8 but it leaves me with a few problems. Then I would have 3 cars to insure and register. It would also be a muscle car so there go my rates. A turbo focus is still insured as a focus. The price of gas would also kill me.
Plus, there is just something cool about a turbo econobox.

Jonny, you need to be taken over my knee - I know you're a passionate Chevy hater...but hey...I'll accept your 'stang and let you know that it's been pulled way out of stock with all that stuff.
Oh, btw - what year CAMARO did you own?
give me stock muscle...makes me wet!
I hear ya about the gas though. Ive never heard about problems with insurance though?

Have you considered a V8 swap maybe? You could probably buy a donor Stang pretty cheap and work on when time is available...although you would be without a car until it gets done.
all this talk about chelly getting wet is turning me on!
They do have special insurance for classics and such but there are mileage limitations. IIRC, it also has to be a no longer in bussiness company like tucker or delorean.
I thought about a V8 swap but that involves buying all the kugel parts, custom driveshaft, SVO diff, new rear suspenion, new front suspension, custom exhaust, custom gauge cluster, and fuel cell.
Turbo zetec for me. I also dont get along well with carbourators (sp?)
Worked my first day of overtime today. Secured a work project that will keep me in overtime for the next 2 months at least.
