so Ive ripped apart a few chunks of my engine and im still trying to decide what parts are wrong and which parts are to be upgraded. First off, Haynes sucks. they recycle the pictures of other zetec vehicles and some of the stuff they talk about does not apply or is flat out wrong. like piston oil squirters in the block. uhhh, not on the regular block! and the fuel return line. what fuel system do they have? Some of the pics are clearly of cougars and contours. I know they have to crank out alot of different manuals but these can be important details. It also makes me wonder if they really do "a complete teardown and rebuild".

The other thing a really hate is the zetec tuning section on certain un-named forums. Even on the largest forum, if you have a technical question about legitimate engine building and real actual tuning, no body knows anything. Well, there are people that do but they dont post there.:X I put up pics of engine parts and ask easy questions like where does the tensioner go? is this the right timing cover? wqhats missing from my fuel rail? and its like I put up pics of magic eye posters - everyone just gets glassy eyed and confused.

I love this project and Im having a great time with it. But I thought after 4 years of the focus existance, There would be more than just 5 guys who know how to work on them.

This is why I think it would be invaluable for us to have a place specifically designated for the hardcore engine building.  I think your experience is going to be fantastic for this site, especially since most of the people I've seen who are building these things conveniently forget how they did after they've finished.  I wish I knew more, but unfortunately, I can only build it if I'm the one who took it apart.

you kow, Im reading the material and doing it all myself and it really isnt very hard. there are just some things I am a little unclear on and anybody whos worked on their engine a little ought to be able to tell me. In the SPI forum, there were a number of people who knew it inside and out. Now I have to deal with the zetec forum and Im amazed how little knowlege there is. anyone who wasnt a dummy went off to FI. Now if I needed how tos on installing a volant ram air............

I get MORE help on this small site than on that other massive site.

Blasphemy ;)  That's because we aren't all as good as they are, see if you are that "other" site just by being a member you inherit some magical gift of knowledge. :P

"Noooooo!!!!! Don't put that part on there!!"

"No. That is not a spare cam there."

Sorry couldn't resist.

I would help you out but unfortunatly my current project is going to be the teardown and rebuild of a Ford big Bolck. I am sure internaly they are similar in that they do the same thing but as of now I cannot even help myself.

And hay just ask and someone will help. Be careful tho because I may do like above. J/K.

If you need pics let me know, I got 3 fully assembled Zetec's(2000,2001,2002). TFNE also has a GTG this weekend and we can get all the stock and assembled pics you need. There will even ba a 2003 there so you can get 4 differant pics of how Ford did somthing (you know how Ford is at changing designs every year:D)

Im not cracking on thsi site at all. I get more help here than anywhere else. we haver a smaller base so I dont expect to get expert replys on everything. Bigger sites with like 15K members, I expect better than a bunch of idiots asking questions about how to install an intake. I swear, If I see one more thread about guess my power or what exhausr, Im gonna slap somebody with a camshaft.

guess my husspowah :)  I don't know it anyways.

Yeah, I see what you are saying, I think the difference is, when somebody doesn't know something here, we honestly want to know the answer also, so we'll exhaust our resources to try and find out the answer, not just for you but for ourselves also.
