I got hit again coming home, at around the same time as last time. But in the Explorer, by some 70 yr. old man in his RV. I got his license plate number 7 BINGO .
I was in the right lane merging left, 'cause of the construction signs said merge left. I had room, but he zoomed up in his RV and scrapped my side and struck my mirror and ripped it off. He got infront of me, as he intended to and got out. While I am thinking this ****er is trying to run off again, like last years accident. So I was quickly writting down the license plate number and shaking like crazy. He gets to my window and he says "You better have good insurance you asshole" and I am like "Yes, I do and you better too." So then he just starts walking away, when this guy in a grand am says to me "Get that ****ers license plate" and turns to him "You should have let her in you ******g old fart" and then he says to me again "Get that ****er and get his license taken away" I was like "Wow, yes I will, Thank you"
So the old fart drives off!!!!
I drove to the Shell station near there and asked the attendant to call the police and they got him pulled over on RT.20 and I had to drive there to meet them.
So when I got there, he approaches with the cop and says "I bet she doesn't even have a license" I had my info already and said "For your information I do, and my name is Carmen and I am not an asshole" I explained to the cop when he drove off that he called me an asshole. I told the cop " I know what is going to happen here, I get a ticket, 'cause I am young and he is old, right?" The cop said no, just wait and see.
So the old man is like " I bet she had her mirror knocked off before I hit her" I was like "Officer go get my mirror off the road, it is still there!"
DUMB **** OLD PEOPLE!!!
Ok so noone got a ticket I just have to call my insurance and get it fixed and blah blah. Cop said the old guy was not good enough to deal with, he was crazy and stubborn, the type you are just supposed to move on and ignore.
Whatever.
I am just pissed, I swear I am getting a huge decal that says in a target sign "HIT ME HERE OR ANYWHERE YOU WANT EVERYONE ELSE DOES!"

I learned long ago to steer clear of any RV. Anybody can get in to a huge freakin RV that in any other circumstances would require a class 1 or 2 permit to drive. Scary.

That sucks out loud, I am soory to hear of your misfortune. And I fully agree, after a certain age, you should get vison and hearing and take the test again for a liscense, but like that will ever happen, just because the laws are made up by older people.

I don't know about taking "THE" test again. I can see them having to take a more relaxed competency exam, but I'm pretty sure even I couldn't pass THE test again. All that two hands on the wheel bullshit.

I'm so sorry - I agree about the testing at a certain age, not just vision and hearing, but laws and rules of the road as well. I know people in ME who are still drving on their paper license that was written 40 years ago and didn't need to be renewed for anything.
As for the accident and you having to claim on your insurance. Didn't you get his information? If not, the Police will have his insurance information and you should request that or have your insurance company request it and have your insruance company go after the old bastard!
I don't agree that all "older" drivers suck at driving. I know many who are brilliant, but I can also tell you that there are so many "me first" drivers out there that situations like this is what causes road rage.
My biggest issue here is that the guy hit and ran. Technically this makes him at fault no matter who was at fault in the first place. Sonofabitch should be slapped with one hell of a fine and have marks against his license AND have his insurance rates increase.
I would have loved to have been the one he hit....he wouldn't know what the hell to do...Sounds like he's real educated to walk up and call you an asshole too. I would have ripped him a new one and not one swear would have come out of my mouth. I would have also told him to give me his insurance info and call the police ASAP.

I was almost hit a few times in just the same manner. You have to move over and somone speed up from behind you to get in front (verry common in Mass and around Boston, Heck I have to tailgate just to keep my spot in traffic). Chelly was with me one time when a full size Chevy pick-up did it to me. I than used the power and the handeling of the focus to get in front of him and procede to slam on the breaks. It didn't even affect this guy tho (I should have pulled the e-break).
Don't let this guy get you down. Try what Chelly said and you should also have the police report of him leaving and not being co-operative with the cops.

Yep, I gotta eat the cost again, since no tickets were issued, so have to buy a new mirror and put it on. If I go through my insurance it is $500 either way, so not worth it.
So yeah, lesson learned, Carmen can get screwed always, since it is me. Whatever.

Officer said , no, that he had 2 be gone 4 more than 24 hrs. 2 claim a hit and run and have him arrested. Oh well. Have 2 search ebay 4 some mirrors now, and time 2 move on. I'm getting used 2 this by now.
I neither a cop nor a lawyer, but with my limited knowledge & your description, I see two things here. IMO, when he hit you, he had the right-of-way, which means you were at fault. He may not have been courteous, if fact, he may have been being a prick, but he did have the right-of-way. Had it ended there, it would have been your responsibility.
Second, IMO, leaving the scene of an accident is never all right. Again, IMO, he should have been charged for that.
I think the lesson is, never assume another driver is going to let you in, do the courteous thing, or be generous.

He was wrong and I'd fight like hell to get his contact information and report the license plate to your insurance company and have them duke it out.
Pay for it now out of your pocket and have the insurance company recoup it for you!

I hear you about the older person younger person crap. I get cut off all the time by middle aged and older men AND women and get stared at. I'm going to be 34 in a couple of months here. I'm not spring chicken, but I can tell you they think I am because I look younger and I drive a "sporty" car in a bright color.
