so it all began when i decided to change my wheels over in hearing a forecast (call me crazy, its erly, but you never know, and im not one for taking risks in the snow...) so i go to get an alignment, the only available place i had at the time of night was sears, they take cars in til 7 they say. so i go to sears, get there at 659, guy says "i dunno if i can do it, my tech is here til 9"... dont ask how you couldnt do an alignment in 2 hrs, but i put my foot in my mouth and let them take care of it. turns out, the kid who rung me up was one of my dickhead customers from Drivin Style back in the day, who was part of a stealing ring we had going...tried tellin me if my car was pulling right, there was nothing wrong HELLO! get the car back, and still wasnt right, whatever, 60 day guarantee, you bet your ass ill be back.
then, tonight, go to the veterans cemetary to visit a friend who was killed in a training accident back in may and picked a friend up in plymouth at PSU. no problems on the way up, leave plymouth to come south once again, and it starts raining...ok, so its raining, well get wet, no big deal, i dont mind being wet. did our thing, spent some time....get on 93N and going up a hill, my car starts chugging and sputtering like you wouldnt believe. pull the car over (luckily there was a rest stop right there) look at it, touch the filter on my CAI it was SOAKED. dried it off, let it sit for a few mins, continued north back to plymouth. kinda did it a lil bit on the way back up, nothing as bad as the first time, so i continued on. go up a hill in plymouth right off of the highway, and the car stalls. called a few people, came up with some ideas, and decided to continue the (normally) 1 hr ride home...and downhill it went from there. i had to stop at every hill, and about 10-15 mins for this 80 mile ride at about 55-65 mph is i was lucky. to make a long story short, my car is effed bc an AEM filter shit the bed. never had i had problems in the rain. my belief is that the filter doesnt seal properly on the pipe, and no my engine is (insert proper phrase here)
...i feel a lil better now...hopefully, ill make it to work tomorrow:X

My o my.. where to start.. I almos think maybe you should have kept the bypass valve for your own car :P Sorry things went so shitty for you tonight. Hopefully you will be able to get to the bottom of the problem and it wont put a friggin hole in your pocket in the process. I know there are a few people on  here that will be interested to know the outcome of t his. I for one havent had any problems, im keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad to hear you made it home ok.

So is the motor still good or did anything unreversable happen?

ok, she started up fine this morning, idled fine, ran like normal, but i still didnt bring it any higher than 3k just so i wouldnt open the TB any more than i had to. the towel iwrapped around half of the filter on the last leg of my trip last night was soaked when i took it off this morning, but the filter was dry, luckily. after work, went down and filled her up with some 93 and dry gas jus to get any moisture out of the system if any and took it down to my parts guy i bought it from for an opinion on the filter. after looking at it in the daylight, it looks like the bottom part of the cone is starting to separate from the filter itself, and the end of the filter that clamps on to the tube is beginning to wear thin as well. so, he ordering me another filter, a bypass valve and sending my old filter to AEM to have them look at it, and if its a defect i get a new filter, if not, the new filter will stay and the AEM will go. no more of this. and i also got the CEL tested out...good news is, only a flash code saying water hit the mass air sensor. he took it for a spin and says it shows no signs of any water damage so far, but to definately (and obviously) keep an eye on it. everything will be alright, as far as i see

I'm glad it worked out the way it did. Sounds like you dodged some potentially serious damage.

Well im sure that was the first trip you've ever taken that took you more than two hours longer to get home than it should have. Seems that things are going to be ok though. Glad to hear that the filter was the problem although it really could have caused some damage. Write AEM a nice lil letter if there is a problem with the filter, even if you do get a new one out of it. Your two cents is always worth something. ( Even though I always tell you it isnt ;) )

Best of luck to you !!!

So, i just got a first hand experience of the "damage" or "problems" if you will with chris' SVT. What a mess is all I can say... chugging, high constant reving... it boggles my mind really. It doesnt make sense to me what would cause the throttle to always be so high. It would seem like the TB is open partially.. but that would make sense and we know this whole situation is a little derainged. Hopefully it will get fixed soon though!! need to keep everyone posted on this.,.

..well summarized. i dont think travelling for 1 mile+ while not on the throttle but in gear should not keep you at the same speed...you would think the engine would eventually slow itself down?? oh wait, it used to do that. takin it to the shop tomorrow to have someone look at the TB for me, possibly clue me into something i may be missing, hopefully this nonsense will stop soon, before this motor blows up on me

so, it all came down to thiss....popped a few CELs in the past few days, one leading to the MAF..replaced it with a new one, no change. new filter on the AEM, cleaned tubes, cleaned TB...no change. kept popping codes as of today left and right, all leads to the TPS...after taking the entire thing apart last night, i couldve thought to change it but at 230am i guess enough is enough. took it out tonight, sure as hell theres water in it. as long as its really as dry as it seems by looking at it after drying it out, hopefully all will be well, and the SVT will be back in prime working order.
