I joined 3 Focus forums- FocalJet, ClubFocus and TeamFocus- respectively.
The reason I didn't like FJ was because they completely bashed my company and products while I was a member there. All I ever heard was "why don't you just buy an intake / exhaust / etc." Why not? Because I did with $100 what it takes some people $1000 to do. So eventually I was... escorted to the door. Now don't get me wrong, FJ is a great place for information, but if you're looking for actual community, you won't find it.
ClubFocus eventually went down the same road- and the owner of CF himself was taking part, personally insulting myself, my products and my business. So I left there with no intention of returning.
Now, I don't even have a Focus anymore, yet this is the only message board I visit. I don't even visit the Mazda Protege / 323 forums since the people there seem to have a "holier-than-thou" attitude towards people that ask any kind of question about engine / head swaps, or any kind of question that's ever been asked before. "Use the search function."
I think for a forum to truly thrive and survive, you have to welcome new members and kind of let them get used to things before- if ever- expecting them to "get in line". Here, I've never seen "Use the search"- even on questions that have been asked a million times. Which is why I've reccomended more people to this site than to all the rest of the sites combined. I've put more effort into seeing this place grow than anywhere else.
This place is a family- not just a bunch of information or a whole lotta BS. We all pretty much know each other by name- not just by what it says in the upper left of our posts. I am proud to be a TeamFocus "Family Member".
Yeah, I think it starts with the Staff. If Staff are participating and joining the "Disturbers" of a board in attacking its own members, the board is doomed. I've seen it on a few boards, and even received emails from FJ Mods calling me a "faggot", among other things, and saying they wanted to "beat me up". I laughed like hell. I repeatedly emailed the owner of FJ asking if he knew what his own Staff were up to, but I never got an explaination.
I think when you cant get good Staff support, things start to get ugly.
I'm sorry to hear it too. I had a mishap with them too. From personnal attacks by e-mail to them posting my e-mails on the forum. I have made forums of my own hoping people use them. I post only in the NE area there when I have an event happening. Otherwise nothing. People are all talk and no show when it comes to doing something new and different.
I must say this, but here is the only place that really helps me out, like with probs and stuff. And another one is focuworld.net, they help too, but with regualr stuff, like materialistic stuff, Here u get moral and material help too. I don't know if u get what I am saying. And the other place that I am on, which is focusfanatics.com, well they went down 4 me, so many rude people poping up and u can't post simple stuff, because there is always a noob or anyone else, who comes and has 2 say a smarta$$ comment. So I come here and then 2 the other one, but we got tons of nice people here who care about your feelings, and well I haven't been anywhere else that does this, that is why I love it here.

The staff is like the root of the tree. If is good it will flurish. If its bad than the tree may grow but won't look good
And Jonny do they know how "huge" you are and that your the smallest person in your group of local friends.. If any of them wanted to meet you for a fight I say grab the Brooker Klcan and they will run when they see you comming..

Oh god are we screwed then I mean, I'm in this tree's roots Either way, I think what you say is true. I think we need to keep doing what we are doing, and the people will come eventually (of course more people means the chance of trolls, but oh well.)
There is no doubt in my mind that if we continue, as mods (roots) in keeping this a comfortable, open forum then we will see those interested in it come in and participate.
I've noticed our newbies and happy to say many women, come in looking for answers to their questions. To educate themselves on not just the focus, but cars in general. To me, a forum which doesn't treat you in the "Women can't/don't know anything about cars" mentality is really outdated and makes it an uncomfortable place.
We will continue to grow and those that value quality information and the ability to post without being ripped apart or picked at will stay and contribute.

Ya, I dont have time for the gym anymore. To busy on the water And besides, I can kick tha dogshit out of everyone I hang out with, they all might be bigger and still hit tha gym, but they are all younger, most of them anyway, and havent been in as many rounds as I have Actually, Shane is pretty strong for younger guy, plus he's like 6' 4" lol. If you think Jay & Philly are tough just because they are big, lol, you might wanna reconsider. Being strong with the weights, and being TOUGH on the street are 2 totally different things lol.
I just realized, I havent been on any other Focus boards for months and months.
I have't had a bad experience yet at FJ but I definitely see some favortism toward people they know/buddies and they can get away with some things others can't. There's another forum that does this too but I won't mention their name.
The main reason I go to FJ is to keep up to date on focussport news/stuff/products.
Randy seems to be a great guy and seems to be willing to help out people who even bought FS parts second hand.
Like someone said though, it's the mods/admin team that have to set the example and on some of the other forums, the mods are the ones doing the trash talk and posting anywhere a pre-21 year old girl might be posting to get a response so they can send a PM and chat. Damn horn dogs...LOL
Each forum has a different vibe and feel and you guys got a good start on the new forum.

I dont think any board, that has Staff that emails its members with threats and swear words, deserves any respect.
When I had my run-in in over there, I got the feeling the Mods. that emailed me crap thought they were in some gang, and I also have a good feeling that their humble head tyrant Ron had no idea what they were emailing me. Actually, he had no idea why I was even banned in the first place. Repeated attempts to get an answer from Mr. Myers about my banishment brought nothing but excuses and banter. Never was I given an explaination.
So not every Focus owner is treated well by the "first" Focus board. I have Z E R O respect for that.
Yeah, pretty dumb there, they don't allow animated/pics under your sig, ok, really gay. And so dead and no fun going on, ok, not visiting there. Oh yeah so bored last night, I went in and signed on cause of that, just plain bored, don't hate me, I am not leaving here.
But I have been reading through FJ for a few weeks now, out of curiousity among other things. And I agree...their admin staff acts like morons. And more so...their excuse when someone says "great way for a mod to act" is well, I was speaking to you personally, not as a moderator. I'm sorry unless you are willing to be subject to the same rules as the person your flaming, then you are not speaking to them personally. You are still a mod, and you getting banned isn't an issue. It seems that the staff over there has a major ego problem. I haven't seen a whole lot of helpful information...actually let me rephrase that...there is alot of helpful information here, if you are willing to deal with the ten tons of bullshit you have to carry in order to get it. Not a very inviting site, and certainly not a good place to represent Focus Owners in my opinion.

LOL. I remember one kid on there (he was a mod), forget his username though, began with a P, anyway he was giving me a hell ride, hootin N hollerin at me about SVT stuff, when he didnt even have one. I was like ok buddy, I have one, you dont. That REALLY got him fired up, he said "I will soon!", and like the next day I was perma-banned for something non-related, and had several emails from him and a few of his FJ buddies calling me a "fag" and saying they were gonna "kick my ass". I forwarded all emails I got from them to Ron Myers, and Ronny could not give me an explaination for them, or why I was perma-banned. No reason given, ever. Awesome.
I've said it before and i'll say it again: i'm not registered at FJ but i am at some other site. I dont think i'll ever post on any site but this one. I fear that i wont get the help i need from the other sites when i run into a problem. i've read some of the replies to ppls probs at the jet, and they end up getting dissed because they think they (other members) know it all and believe everyone else who owns a focus should know everything as well. also i find FJ annoying because everyone quotes other peoples quotes quotes quotes (does that make sense?) and they never get their ?'s answered. Ever since i first posted here i've gotten the advice i needed in an honest and very helpful manner w/ no bs. i like it here. im glad i found this place. and also yes, this place does feel like a family. a family of focus owners or ppl w/ interest in the focus. thanks guys, youre the greatest.

Its WAY to big and some what out of hand.. I never know what the hell is going on there... I go on every day and try to post as much as possible.. but I feel that I'm not "in" the loop and nobody wants to pay attention to me.. Weird... lol
The jet doesn't feel comfortable.. only really good for information.. and sometimes, thats a pain to find.
