FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK!!!;tim;tim

Well, yet another focus motor is toast! MINE! Went out this afternoon to help Dan(fx3) with his truck. Finished up with Dan and started heading home. Coming off 293 merging with 101 near macy's in Bedford. Traffic had come to a stop so therefore I did too. When it was clear to go, I started going. Reach about 4000 RPM and shift into second.....BOOM! Look in th rear view and see a smokescreen cause by me. So I coast to a stop about halfway down the ramp and pop the hood. Oil everywhere. Not good. I decided that the off ramp wasn't the best place to pull over, so I go to the end of the ramp and get over as far as I can. Open the hood again to check it out. Sure enough, there is a silver dollar sized hole on the front of the block. FUCK!! Get a tow home, and there the gr33nlemon sits. What the fuck to do now? Hope to find a cheap replacement motor locally to avoid shipping charges? Hey Chelly, wanna sell your motor hun? Looks like I'll be out of commision for a while.;ohno

I wish I knew. Looks to me like the rod snapped and went through the block. It's the 2nd cylinder from the far left side. ;:what

Thanks for the kind words Tiff. With any luck Dan and Chally will be able to buy the car back if it is declared a total. Then let the fun beginn if they are willing to part with the motor.

I've heard of several engine failures in Focus's. IMO, this is highly unusual for almost any car, unless, of course, you're racing. I hear tranny, ps pumps, brakes, wheel bearings, but motors blowing holes in the block are very rare. I really like my car, when it comes to driving it, but generally, the quality control on this particular model is crap.

I'm really sorry to hear about your car. Hope you can get it fixed quickly & inexpensively.

Thank you Mr. V. I found a junkyard motor for 400 bucks. It's got 29k miles on it. If Dan and Chelly don't want to part with their motor, this will more than likely be the way I will be going. :driv

Wow, that sounds so very very familar to me. Same exact situation when mine blew... about 4K going into 2nd when the BOOM struck. Oh Mike, i feel your pain!
Ill try to give the dealer a call tomorrow and see if they have any record of what rod i blew (when it was there they told me little to nothing and never actually said that i blew a rod.. just that one was 'missing'... like i misplaced the fucker or something)
I say that Ford has a very serious problem here. THis is 2 2000 ZXs blowing thier engines within 6 month within a relativly small group of people. Who knows what it is on a whole. All i know is i was told nothing, given the new engine and they shipped the blown one back to ford HQ to 'investigate' and assured me it was an extremely  rare occurance and would never happen again... well now... now im not so sure!

Ill let ya know what i find. ANd if you feel the need to bitch for out let me know... ill be there to back you up ( i just cant bitch directly seeing i did get the new engine for $100... but remember, thats only bc i bitched about other problems before)

Pokes, how many miles were on your engine when it blew? I'm very curious about this. Most likely I won't get a $100 engine out of this because I feel they will blame this on my modifications, which is bullshit. Well I guess Ill have to roll with the punches and pray for the best. Thanks for your support everyone, you truly are a FAMILY to me!:aff

My car only had like 53K on it when he blew so i think that is kinda a problem, no reason for cars with 53K and 80K to be blowin up the same way.

I have been thinkin about mine. I think i might have thrown the same rod you did. Was either the one on the far left or the 2nd one in. I have pictures from it so you can see if you can figure it out.

I dont know if your did this too or not but my engine never seized. Even when it was hangin in the shop you could still get all the internals to move like they were supposed to. Might have been thanks to the amsoil that had been in there like 3 months, but could have been something else... who knows.

If there is anything else ya need just let me know
Chelly has my number

OK.. those pics are a little large there now arent they. If you want them emailed to ya or if you want ones without the writing on em just let me know.. i still have them (but now more than every im  wishing i took more, better quality pictures). Also, one of my buddies who knows more about the whole engine thing than me went up to take a look to. If you want i can give him a call and see if he can relate to ya what happened there better :)

This looks exactly like mine does. I 'm gonna go outside and check to see if there is a chunk on the end of the dipstick. I think there is. My car does still run, I just have a hole in my block. How did you get this replaced under warranty with 53k on it? Did you have an extended warranty?

My engine didnt run either... but you could manually make everything move inside it if you put some effort into it.

Yeah, i had an extended on the car, but thats only bc i wrote to Ford like 2 years before the bitch about all the problems my car had... so they gave me a free extended to shut my ass up. Was the only good thing to come out of it.. not only did they lost money givin out a free warruntee... but they had to replace an engine and pay for a week of rental car (be it a suzuki) on top of it :)

Definatly check the dipstick. Im sure that you will be replacing your yourself but be sure to change that out too. The fuckers are McFarland put the same dipstick tube back on the new engin so you couldnt get the dipstick back in. Dumbasses!
