Not sure what forum to put this in.. so we'll just make a rant out of it. I hate that stupid civic of his. It's always breaking down I swear he's gone through 3-4 (maybe even 5!) engines this past YEAR! It's nothing but problems, yet when I offer to buy him (and pay for the entire thing) a brand new truck (that he wanted) he refuses. Then he complains that his car runs like shit! So I buy him this other Civic. Have it shipped into Wisconsin from CALIFORNIA just for him so he can have a rust free car. It's not a bad little car, but he refuses to drive it in the winter. The rule in our house is that he always has to have one car running, and he can't seem to follow this rule lately. I feel like selling one of his Civics and buying him some beater I know he won't want to modify!
Yeah. so anyways.. if you could give some advice too I'd appreciate it!
So. My husband's Civic died (again) yesterday. He said it was running fine until he filled up with gas. He drove it about 16 miles (all highway) and it died on the off ramp. So it's sitting in a Hardee's parking lot right now. He changed the starter, spark plugs, plug wires and nothing. It turns over and over and over but nothing. He seems to think it's bad gas.
If it is bad gas, how do we fix that? I've heard it's like 500 dollars to get the fuel tank/lines flushed and we definetly can't afford that. Plus the car needs to be moved tonight, so if we can't get it going I'm going to have to pull it 16 miles with my poor Focus (don't even want to hear that it's not good for the car, the Focus can't tow that much blah blah blah, we don't have any choice).
Any suggestions?
edited to include that it's a 92 dx hatch with an engine swap (don't know what kind, Y7 something comes to mind ) that's maybe two weeks old.

four things are needed to make an engine run: spark, fuel, air, compression. If I ahd to venture a guess I would say its a bad fuel pump. bad gas usuallywill allow a car to start but it will miss occasionaly or be really weak. the best thing to do is get a fuel gauge and moniter fuel pressure as someone tries to start it. if thats ok, verify spark with a tester. (7$) after that, its looking for sever vac leaks, air restrictions, electrical issues inclusing PCM (if equipped).
since you live in Wisconson, get him a GLHS. everyone has an omni for their winter beater so he should fit right in, except the GLHS is fast as hell so he'll enjoy his turbo beater.

After Carroll helped Dodge massage their 2.2 cars, he wanted a more aggressive and performance oriented vehicle. He bought the last 500 86 GLH Turbos, all of them black. These were then shipped to his assembly plant in Whittier, California. This is where the 146HP GLH made its transformation into a GLHS! Shelby started with the addition of an air-to-air intercooler, different turbo and special intake manifold, larger injectors and throttle body. This allowed Shelby to bump the boost from 9-psi to 12-psi (or 14-psi at WOT with the MP Stage II module). The result was 175-hp and 175 lb-ft of torque.
Now that the power was available, the suspension was upgraded with Koni adjustable struts/shocks all around. Shelby added more negative front camber and a small bit more toe-in on the rear. The tires were upsized from the 195's to 205/50VR-15 Goodyear Gatorbacks, mounted on Shelby Centurion aluminum wheels.
The inside received a clear sticker overlay on the unpegged speedometer that gave it a readout to 135 MPH and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The last interior change consisted of the removal of the normal plastic Omni badge and its replacement with the numbered Shelby Automobile badge.
Depending on which magazine you read, the car was capable of quarter mile times between 14.8 and 15.3, 0-60 in the 6.5 second range and a top speed of 130 MPH. Brings a new meaning to the term grocery getter.
Sounds to me like you need to stop spoiling your man and make him drive his new car in the crappy weather and dump that POS that's causing all the problems.
Tell him to go find an early to mid 90's Camry or a toyota of some kind - he needs to give up on this Honda dream of his.
Also, I don't remember it costing that much money to have the water taken out of a fuel tank when I was a service writer. I'd say check the fuel filter too. How long has it been since that's been changed? Should be at least once a year and if he's getting bad gas - he needs to go to a different station.
Good luck!

He says the one in the garage has a "warped head" or something like that.
I think we ruled out the bad gas idea. One other thing he/I noticed was after he installed the new spark plugs and tried turning the plugs over, they were almost immediately saturated.
The car is at home now and mommy said he could use her truck (sometimes I think he breaks his cars just to drive mommy's 03 Durango! lol) so he has this weekend to figure it out.
I'm starting to think this whole modified car dream of his is just a nightmare for me!
This engine is maybe 2 weeks old also.

He made it sound like it was saturated with gas.. but I really don't know a whole lot about this stuff so I'm not sure.

At least someone else feels that way! I think it's ridiculous!!

He's still had less problems with his 13 year old Honda than I have had with my 03 Focus. AND most of the problems he caused himself! (umm.. the time where he blew two engines running 14 PSI on stock engines doesn't count either!) lol!
