OK... now, the Mazda has a leaking compression issue. I'm OK with that because I want to do a DOHC swap. I talked to a guy who's got one he'll sell me "for $200 wth ECU and wiring".
I said OK, meet me here (at Shell) Tuesday (today) at 3:30-4 so I can come take a look at it (make sure it runs good, mileage, etc.). So I get out of school, all amped about going to look at this motor. I get to Shell at 3:25. And wait. And wait. And wait.
Finally, 4:30 rolls around and I leave. I'm just aggrivated. Maybe he had a car accident. Maybe his wife got sick or something. Or maybe he just forgot. Still. It's aggrivating to be so excited about something and then it doesn't happen.
So I go to eBay. Why do people want so damn much for a friggin 15-year-old motor? Why is it people can get whole cars for $300 and yet the motor I need, or at least really really want, is sometimes over $400? I JUST WANT MY FRIGGIN DOHC MOTOR DAMMIT. I WANT IT NOW.
I feel better now. Hopefully, I'll see the guy soon and we can go look at the motor, so I know if it's good enough for what I need or not.
I might just see about getting another SOHC for free. Let me go do that.
Do you post on any larger Mazda sites? My hubby was looking for a free d15b before for his Civic, and all he did was put a post up on HondaTech saying he was looking for a free one, and many people Pmed him wanting to get rid of their engines. I think the most he ever paid for one was $30.

Yes, I tried the Mazda sites... problem is, the motor I want is the 3rd most desirable engine for Protege's (behind the 2 turbo motors). It's the best n/a Protege motor.
The odd thing about it, is the DOHC BP came in 3 different cars, the 90-94 Protege LX (GT in Canada), the 91-95 Escort GT and the 91-95 Tracer LTS. Yet it's so hard to find one. I was able to get V8's for $100 back when I needed a V8... now I can't find a 4-banger for under $200? Doesn't make any sense.
