My credit score sucks because of what Ford did to me!

:fu Ford Credit!

First they stopped letting me pay on my car because my co-signer filed bankruptcy, then they wanted a lump-sum payment (which I didn't have) and then they repo'd the car... leaving me with a 590!

Well I'd tell you file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy but our Congress and GWB messed that up.

I had to file in '99, my credit is back to almost perfect but it was a great system if you wanted to abuse it. Get all the credit cards you can (if you have a good job) you can get more credit cards than you'll ever imagine. Get cash advances keep consolidating cards back and forth which gives you back the cash advance lines you had before. If your a good gambler, go for it. I wasn't  though but the court totally erased all the unsecured credit card debts;biglaugh. You could do that every 6 years. Maybe that's why they changed the law ;bigcry. Keeping me on the straight an narrow now! That's no fun though!

If you think that they are in the wrong you can petition the credit bureaus to have it changed, or to investigate, you can also put a statement in your credit report to explain the situation to any new potential credit lenders.

Yes, to what RPIJG stated. After my first(only divorce), I had to do that about a home we sold. It was an assumable mortgage and the people defaulted that assumed the mortgage. To make long story short, I sent a registered letter to the mortgage company that they never notified me about it. They signed on the letter but never replied, so it was taken off my credit history. My other post was beween then and now. LOL:blah

I might just have to do that. I didn't know you could put a statement on your credit report. How does one go about doing that?

you have to contact the credit bureaus directly... go to http://www.creditexpert.com, they have a good amount of info available without having to sign up I think, but you can sign up for a free credit report, as well as 1 month of membership to the credit report service.

Even the wealthy, like us educators can have financial problems, mine was, I'd never  lived relatively close to where Casinos (Shreveport, La.) are located and having too many credit card with relatively high limits on them. GWB and our Congress closed the easy way out, those S.O.B.'s. I'm in good shape now 6 years after but it will stay on my credit history for 4 more years but my FICO score is in the low 700's which is good enough to purchase cars at almost but not quite the best interest rates and the same to buy a house. Most of the time I deal with my credit union but when I bought the ZX3 they beat their interest rate w/5%. I think my C.U. is getting ready to have a special on car financing and they said they would refinance it as a new car at 4.75%.

Needless to say, not many trips to the Casinos if any:chair

Maybe I was dreaming, but I think I heard somewhere that everybody can get a free credit report, including their score at least once per year. It used to be that you could only get a free one if you were turned down for a loan.

Is this true, and if so, how do you go about getting a report/score?;:what

Not real, sure but the people that due credit credit reports are Esperian, Equifax and at least one or two more. If you need a detailed report you generally have a place in your city/town that will do this for you for about $15(look in yellow pages under credit). If you just want to know your FICO score, generally your bank or Credit Union will give you the score but due to regulation they won't let you see examine it.

I can get a free one from my one of my credit card providers once a year, I don't know about score though. I use http://www.creditexpert.com to do mine, the first one is free, and then after that they give me as many as I want for 9.95 a month plus they track any changes to my report and/or score. It's a useful tool for people who are either concerned about there credit or trying to do something about it.

There are 3 major credit bureaus

Equifax
Experian
Transunion.

Thanks Joe. I've never seen a credit report before. I went to the site you suggested & signed up. I'm probably going to cancel, because I'm cheap, and don't want to pay the 10 bucks/mo. My score was good, though. It was an 808, which they said is better than 99.97% of US consumers.

You're right Mr. V, I believe everyone now has the right to one free credit report per year. I believe it was a relatively recent change in federal law aimed at keeping identity theft in check. How you get it, I'm not certain. You could check with any credit card company you have an account with or contact one of the three credit reporting bureaus like Experian.

I'm all about living within my means and paying in cash. Makes life a whole lot more peaceful than wondering if you'll have enough money at the end of the month.

You are entitled to one free Credit Report each year AND if you apply for credit and are denied for any reason you can site that reason and rec' a free report from all of the agencies.

One note - There are at least 2 of these credit reporting agencies that require a writen request - Also, if you find a discrepancy you need to file a report and the beurea with the incorrect information has up to 60 days after rec'ing your request to correct the error.

Go on, ask me how I know...lol!

Have you ever actualy received a free credit report? I have tried that when I have been denied credit (more than once unfortunately) and never received a single one?
Does anyone have the website where you can get your free credit report from?
