I could NEVER live in a condo! I want to do whatever I want with my house, and not have a limited choice of colors for the outside etc.

I just found 20 Acres for $125,000:shock:. They just lowered the price to that. After you buy it who knows how much it will cost to get permits and install septice and well and all the things needed before you even start to put a house on it.

And for about $80,000 I can get myself into a trailor(1989) on its own land (about .3 acres) and it has a 1 car detached garage with workshop.

Where did you find 20 acres for $125K?!?!? Something isnt right with that at all!! Must be wetland or something. Since there is limited open space around here they have resorted to selling that kinda stuff. that or it could be all bedrock or something like that... who knows... but for a 'deal' like that... definatly gonna wanna watch it.

but if its good... hey... Ill split it with ya ;)

Damn, even that sounds ridiculously expensive! 10 years or so back my mom bought 20 acres of land (with a clearing for a house already) for 12,000!! Of course.. again this is Wisconsin :P

Thought this was interesting and kinda relevant to this thread:
Just watching the news and some Economics guy from URI (I think) was mentioning the ridiculous cost of housing in the area, and how it's not likely to go down anytime soon. He mentioned even as their property values increase, Midwest/Southern people have a hard time moving up here cause the price difference is just too high.

He mentioned the average home value in RI = $262,000 and in MA they're looking at $346,000. So with those as averages, forget it if you have a decent sized lot or a waterview or close access to trains or major shopping centers, etc...

In the city of San Fransico, the lowest priced single family house is something north of $700,000.

Metro Boston is right up there with it too last I knew. Thats the best part. The reason it costs lots to live here is bc Boston is so much... so all the people who live in  Boston making $100K/year move up here... an hour north... driving our prices up so us people who work localy for like less than $50K cant afford to live where we grew up... makes me BITTER!!

Mr. V,

I'm really having to do some questioning about my move. To move some 60 miles it's going to cost me $2K to move my single wide mobile home. That's if I can find a lot or up to 1/2 acre with all the utilities(sewage, water, electricity hook ups already on the land) I'm screwed other wise because I don't want to and can't afford to dish out all of my liquid assets to just get set up. Compared to what you all were discussing it's relatively cheap here in Texas but I need to have some cash reserves of at least $5K just in case of an emegency. I'm just stressing out now, I need to realize my work environment, is starting to takes its toll on me and the move/cash issue is adding to it, the sooner I make up my mind the better. I'm just going to have to tell my potential new employer your going to have to give me until mid June to find a place to get set up or I guess I have to stay at S**T  HOLE where I'm at. Bummer Dude!:?

JT

That stinks! Can you move it to an established park? Is selling it & getting another one an option? Assuming that you get the job, why would you have to move before June?

Just an aside...I taught in Cleveland Public Schools for a long time, then got a job in a rural/suburban community about 30 miles sw of the city. BOY! Did I ever have a tough time adjusting to the student body there. It also took them forever for them to accept me as well. They genuinely disliked the fact that I had sidewalks where I lived. No kiddin'. Two entirely different cultures. The city kids didn't even know the rural kids existed, and the rural kids have a very deep-seated distrust of anything and anyone that comes from the city. So did their parents. I took some kids on a field trip to a Cleveland Museum located in a very nice area of the city. Parents called the school asking if armed guards would accompany us. No kiddin' again.
