:( It's Denver all over again.
If I could, I'd drive up there and save as many as possible!

There are actualy candelight vigils being held all over the country tonight for the dogs who will lose their lives due to Canada's ban.

Sorry that came out wrong. Ontario is sad, and revolting.

The shirt I just thought was neat and related.

I'd wear that shirt too! :o)

I feel sick about this whole thing.  Dogs are a direct reflection of their owners nearly 90% of the time.

I will not say there aren't dogs, individual dogs no just breeds, that are inherently vicious and can't be socialized and may be better of euthanized, but breeds are not bad.

My Mack was ignored, left alone for hours and days on end to fend for himself and feed himself from garbage left around. My brother took him in and trained him to walk on a leash and make his home in a kennel.  He's since then graduated 2 obedience classes and is now considered advanced.

Do I think he doesn't have any left over fear from his time alone...I'm not stupid.  I watch him like a hawk and don't put him in situations that may trigger a memory that is negative.  They don't forget those who love him and care for him.  I work on his social skills and many here in TFNE have met Mack.  He hangs out and does well with Franklin the Min-pin and is gentle around children.

Mind you, he has a limit - just like many of us do when it comes to children who act out.  If your kid is driving you nuts, don't you sometimes loose it and send them to their room?  I know I would and my parents did.  Well, Mack gets short with kids that just won't behave and be polite with dogs.  There are rules dogs live by and if you don't know them you may be breaking those rules and face the consequences.  I'm not condoning rude behavior by a dog of any kind, but this is where, once again, it goes back to the owner.

Why are these ppl. who abuse, fight, starve and kill Pits or any other dog breed for that matter get away with a little fine and sometimes made not to own an animal for a year or so?  That's not enough!  Get these people where it hurts...give them a felony record for repeat offenders.  I'm not saying that if Mack bit someone I would want to have a felony record against me...give me a chance to fix the problem.  If Mack were to hurt ANYONE or ANYTHING I'd be devistated!  I wouldn't be able to trust him with others anymore and I'd figure out what his trigger was.  When you listen to your dogs, they tell you an awful lot.

breed specific bans and legislation will lead to nothing but more abandoned dogs and cruel deaths.  I hate this whole thing.

How about putting some breed specific legislation out there against these nippy, biting chahuahuas? They bite a lot! nope, let's pick on the BIGGER Breeds.

The article mentioned some postal worker who was attacked.  WELL, what did that person do about the situation?  She can't tell me that was the first time she saw that dog and was in fear of it.  If it wasn't secured why on earth would you approach?  I'd refuse and make a call into the SPCA to have an office make a visit to get them to secure the dog.

There are so many answers and this legislation is NOT part of them.

There's an 8th grader in our school, who sometimes wears a "T" shirt with a picture of 2 dogs fighting on it. One dog has the other by the neck & both dogs are bleeding. The lettering says "Let nature take it's course."

Sick!   :banned

Well Chelly, I think I agree with like 99% of your above post. I won't say 100 because there might be a subtle thing or two, but as I read it I just kept thinking "yup, yup". But legislation and passing sweeping generalized laws is WAY easier than coming up with more complicated, but in all likelihood, much better solutions!!!! Ugh, it's just so wrong. I would be horrified if I owned a pit in Ontario and that law got passed, and I had to submit my puppies for euthansia, and always have my dog muzzled even if s/he was healthy and happy and well-behaved, with no history of incident?!

Dogs are a lot like people in many ways, there's a two-way channel between owner and pet and back again. They have their triggers, we have ours, they lose their tempers even if they're the mildest creatue you've known, and so do we. Who's to say that a dog who was once provoked/had an owner who didn't stop it bit someone and gave them a couple stitches with no history, is worse than an aggressive driver whose road rage or negligence of traffic conditions slams another car and hurts/kills the person inside, with no previous violations? Is one better or worse, should the offending driver be put down or sterilized!? It doesn't make sense in either case, IMO.

And Mr. V, I know at my town's HS there was no dress code, but certain things weren't allowed to be worn, or had to be turned inside out if it was a shirt. Swears, "Coed naked ____" shirts, etc... I think something as vulgar as a bleeding dogfight woulda fallen under the "inappropriate" section of code. I would hope.:(

And this is allowed? I mean you don't make him turn it inside out or anything? In our schools, anything that even references things that are illegal are not allowed.

I love the t-shirts you gave the links to.  They're so cute.  Too bad they don't make a true X-Large shirt...I bought a TeamFocus one once and it was so small my neice could have fit into it.  certainly not me.

As for the kid at the school with that t-shirt...bet money if you let other parents know what was going on they'd move to enact a dress code.

Heck, you can't even wear a 'Yankees Suck' t-shirt to games anywhere anymore here or in many of the schools forbid it too.

True... and that is a great tragedy:P That's why I've got me a Spankees Yuck one instead!

Oh chelly, I dunno which shirts you were refering to (maybe all 3?) but I should have this one in a day or so, I can let ya know how the sizes seem to run. Unless you're familiar with the "Gildan Cotton" brand of shirts and know they're sized wrong.

I love PBRC's Cafe Press store! But you're right, their t-shirts tend to run small. I have on a woman's raglan right now, XL and it is tight on me. I'm not that big of a girl either.

Well, I'm the old fat bitch here and having a big chest doesn't help. It jsut doesn't work when you've been on steroids your whole life from a kidney transplant.

Cafe Press makes shirts that fit the young, thin girls...not a woman's figure.

It's not even just the women's shirts though. Brutus has an XL t-shirt fromthere that barely fits her, even though she's only about 65 pounds.

Yeah whoever CafePress uses for their clothes definitely models them after 12 year old girls. I think I take a Large in them, anything smaller makes me look skanky and my boobs don't even fit, and I wouldn't normally buy L shirts.

They have some neat clients that use the CP stores though (like that Pit company), so it kinda sucks sometimes.

Punish the Deed by the owner not the Breed of the dog.

I can't stand this.  Like I've said before...these fines for the owners who have aggressive dogs and breed them indiscriminantly need to feel it in their wallet!

These dogs which stood for so much in this country during WWII are now being banished.  narrow minded, insensitive, over reacting idiots are doing this to these dogs.
