So. A while back my hubby and I made a deal that he wouldn't buy a motorcycle and I wouldn't buy a Suburban. Well fuck him and his soon to be new motorcycle (shouldn't tell the rest of the world on the internet before you tell your wifey!!) I'm trading my car in.
At least I want to.
BUT our cars aren't worth crap. It's a 2003 with 21,000 miles on it, but trade in value is at 6915.
ARGH! I don't even want to know how much I owe on it.

I'm sorry... maybe you can find a used SUV, even something a little smaller than a Burb would give you space for dogs or hockey equipment or stuff.
Focuses do have low trade-in values... they're cheap to begin with, Ford offers big rebates, and there's roughly a billion on the road. Sucks though, for trying to trade it in. You could possibly try a Private Sale, you always get more money that way... still probably not 10k.
Although the few low-mileage 03s that go up for sale around here usually ask 9-9.5k, I don't know if they sell for that, but it's what people are asking. It sucks, but I think it's basically that way with any new car bought on a loan... you'll basically always be upside-down in it unless you make huge payments at a time, or pay cash.
Bad move on the hubby's part too, going back on your deal and telling the Internet before you what he was thinking of... no good!

wanna hear something that really sucks. i owe 30 grand on my 05 zx3 i had to take the roll over on the expedition that we had for 6 months. stupid thing was a pos. trucks and foci for me. only thing good that came out of it was i got the focus i wanted, so i think ill keep for a long ass time
IS the 6915 what you found it is worth or is it what the dealer said it is worth. I checked for trade in on my 2000 Sedan and it came to around $3500. Went to dealer and thay would only give me $2000. If you found that number off edmunds or somthing expect it to be lower at the dealer becuase you know thay are out to screw you over.
Why not keep an eye out for a used SUV for under $1000(if you can spare $1000). Keep the focsus and drive the SUV when you really need somthing big. I have seen older 4runners and such go for around $1000. Check out Craigslist.org, check in your area on it. There are tons of cars and trucks for decent money.
Trade in quotes from dealers are BS. In some places all the dealer does is call the local wholesaler/used car auction place and asks them what it's worth. The quote will be for low wholesale less the profit that the wholesaler wants to make on it.
Sell it privately for what the dealer would actually sell it for. Just look in Autotrader or local papers to see what it's going for locally.

eh, teh hubby "changed his mind" after I told him I was buying a Suburban, so now I can't get one
I had to make 3 trips to Menards today to pick up some of my patio bricks and sand!!

and the figure I came up with was from kbb.com Last time I wanted to trade it in I talked to dealership into like 2500 OVER what kbb said (and still was going to get a great price on the vehicle).

I don't know if I would ever buy private party, simply because I'll generaly have a car to trade in (which will more than likely still be paid on).

I guess it's not really an issue anymore.

wow. well we were just looking through the autotrader this morning (a local magazine for car dealers) and picked out two different cars for me to dream about.
A late 90s Volvo wagon or a 2000+ Audi A4 wagon.

course I'll never get either one of those either, but they were both "approved" for me to buy.
