I've gone on about this over and over and it's my biggest driving pet peeves!

I cannot stand it when you have ppl. driving in the passing lane(s) and they are going below the speed limit or pacing the cars in the driving lane(s) and making it impossible for you to drive the way you like (speeding or not - let me decide if I want a ticket) Just ranting here...I rarely go more than 70-75 on a regular basis really.

Why must they ignore the mile long line of traffic they are causing on the hwy and potentially raising tempers and the potential for an accident????

I can't stand it...it is one of the most prominant problems on the road and do you think for one minute, the State police who patrol these highways would cite someone on doing this?  HELL NO!  because they are all doing it!  I pass and get out of the way...that's the way it's done...

Oh, btw - post number 400 *grin*

I noticed that problem when I drove to Boston a couple of weeks ago. I ended up passing on the right quite a bit. Strange, but all of the guys in the car brought up how as soon as we crossed the border there seemed to be a lot of sleepers in the passing lane.

Only place that I''ve been that's worse is Saskatchewan. They drive farm equipment down divided highways in whatever lane they feel like.
Get's your attention when you are closing in on a combine that's doing 20MPH in the passing lane.

Congrats on the post count.

Congrats on the post count.

For some reason New England is notorious for that but ppl from Mass seem to take the cake. I am constantly passing ppl in slow lanes and the breakbown lanes when they are open.

In the conrtary to this is the ppl with there $30-$40K all wheel drive SUV's. They fly past you in good wheather but put a little snow on the ground and they do at least 10 under the speed limit, but they are still in the passing lane. I pass them on the inside with my front wheel drive $10K....

Its a huge problem in my opinion.  Not only that, its a safety issue as well.  Ive taken driving courses in the military and Ive taken devensive driving courses since getting out of the military including the Smith driving course.  In ALL of them without exception I was always taught to not loiter around other cars.  That is if you are goint to pass, then pass.  If you come up on a group of cars and you cannot get around it then back off from it.  The reason being is that one goober in that group not paying attention and should loose control or hit another car the chain reaction could take out everyone in that group of cars and probably several behind it.

Here in OK I have come to the conclusion that most just dont care.  Ive seen idiot stop on on ramps before with no consideration of the consequences.  Just the other day when I was coming home from work, on the highway that has a 70 mph speed limit (which is traveled frequently at 75 - 80 without much hassle from the police) in which I was set on cruise control at 75.  I had an SUV come up behind me while I was passing some other vehicles.  It had the driver, his girlfriend/wife in the front seats and someone in the back seat.  The driver got right up on my bumper, my best guess was that he couldnt have been more than five feet behind me.

Well I put my foot on the accelorator and break off cruise control to slow down a little hoping it would clue him in that he was too close.  Nope.  I slow down a few more miles an hour and he still is right there with me.  Mind you Im in the left lane going around a few vehicles in that lane.  So I decided to give him a quick brake check.  I did so and dropped maybe three miles an hour and then I was back on the gas just in case.  As SOON as I hit the brakes suddenly I saw his woman passenger nearly freak out and on the drivers side I saw news paper fly up as the driver suddenly decided I guess to grab the steering wheel with both hands.

I cant tell you just how mad and shocked I was.  Driving a big heavy SUV and going 70 - 75 mph and reading the newspaper.  What a FREAKIN' MORON!!!  I finally get around the group of cars in the right lane and this guy comes around me and looks at me all mad like I was doing something wrong.  I was extremely tempted to call the police and give them his tag number, but figured they probably wouldnt check into it.

E-Brake works well in those situations.
Get a couple of rubber bricks. They do work incredibly well. Unfortunately you are right about the cops not paying any attention to calls about this.

Oh and what about the old freaking people, today there was a lady in a huge clunky Cadillac, and she was driving in the middle of the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The middle!!!!!!! Not on the shoulder, in the middle of 2 lanes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She kept wobbling back and forth all swirly all over the 2 lanes, finally she was like stopping and she moved over and I stomped on the gas and passed, she was sooooooooooo retarded, ack, that's my rant of the day. :X:X
