The Today Show just aired a segment on cheaters - spouses who cheat on their mates. There were some famous people, principally Jude Law, used as examples. The thing that really pissed me off was it was assumed that men are the ones who are doing the cheating, and that women are the victims, who need to decide if they're willing to forgive their mates.

BULLSHIT!

I got news for you. For every man that cheats, there's a woman involved. ;ohnoDUH!

I saw some stats a cople of years ago, (I'll try to find them), that clearly indicated that cheating was very close to 50/50 among the sexes. I'm tired of men always being made out to be bad, stupid, at fault, inept, dirty, crude, rude, and just about any other negative adjective you can think of. Watch the commercials of TV. There's an ad for soap that says, "What cleans dirty boys?" It shows a man taking a shower. What cleans dirty girls? The implication is that they don't get dirty. Men are portrayed to be dumb, crude, fools, who can't fold a baby stroller and put it in the mini van, without help from their wife. How 'bout the guy that buys a picture of a ninja fighter to put on the livingroom wall, while his wife sighs, rolls her eyes ad walks away? What's the message there.

Approximately equal numbers of men die from prostate cancer as women die from breast cancer. Where's the march for the cure?

I'm not a women hater. Quite the opposite, in fact. Unfortunately, I was born with an overactive fairness gene. The fortunate part is that it seems to work in all directions.

Im with you on that one Mr. V.  Ill back you up... cheating is not one sided at all, Ill admit that one to the fullest. Granted, i have been cheated on on a few occasions (maybe more if Bill is trying to hide anything ;)) But im not going to deny ever cheating myself. I have strayed away from the one that I was with on occation.... its part of life... kinda.... when you are young you are stupid and dont know what you want to do with yourself.... sometimes when opportunities show themselves you take them even when you shouldnt.

I think it all goes back to the whole mentality that woman should be all virginal, waiting for the one they marry kinda crap while men get points for the more women they get with... yet another unfair way to judge people

Everyone should have the same standards to live by Its frigin crazy how the rules change from sex to sex.  All things should be equal from medical research (to cover your example there) and health coverage (covers Viagra but not birthcontrol... whats up with that!!!) to what is seen as ethical and moral in behavior

Being a guy that was cheated on... twice, I see how that is a double-edged sword.  I have never cheated on any girl I have dated / gone steady with, but it seems to be the fad when it comes to me and my trust.

I also known of some people that pulled the cheating stint, and I just shook my head.  Why would you go and do that??? Why not grow the sack to say that you don't want to be with him/her, and move on?

I guess thats why I don't date much anymore.  I would rather not deal with the drama and the risks.

Unfortunately Mr. V  this is all societal.

We, as women are given a role that we're supposed to adhere by and then you have the men who are also supposed to fit this stereotypical mold of masculinity etc.

There was a man, Doctor I think, of psycology who stated that it is a fact that men cannot be monogomous and it is within their nature to be with multiple partners and that they cannot be held accountable for their actions.  BULLSHIT x2

However, having said that, I know plenty of women who have strayed, but I can also say that several of the women I know who did stray had some darn good reasons (abuse being one of them).

to expand on the social aspect of the men cheating...look at the double standard:
Men brag about (not saying all, but many) how many conquests they've had, they're studs in the eyes of their friends and if a woman talks about hers, she's a slut. Mind you, this is just a generalization...look at the media, movies, tv, Magazines etc.  This is what we have to deal with.

We have so far to go to get rid of these old fashioned, machismo stereotypes and with the narrowminded pockets of people who refuse to open their minds and hearts, we're never going to succeed.

I cannot tell you the difference I've seen from living in Portland, ME most of my life to just here in NH.  I've dealt w/ more cheauvanistic, racist and bigoted remarks since living here for the past 3 years than I ever did in Maine.  I won't deny that it is an issue in Maine, but in my location I never had to deal with it.

There was a large blood typing/genetic research project done about six or seven years ago in a community in the SW US.
I saw the data. The number of children that could not have been fathered by the one listed as the legal father was over 30%. The possible but improbable list added another 15%.
The data set was renamed "Cuckold". That data set became very "quiet" very quickly.

I thought this thread was going to be about the show "cheaters". I hate that instigating son of a bitch. Best day ever was when he finally got stabbed. Worst day was when he didnt die from it.

I heard something about that show. Sounds to me like a Jerry Springer spinoff, only possibly even dumber, (if you can imagine that). Who's the guy you're talking about?

the host. He goes with the person who calls cheaters and after htey find out for sure that the person is cheating they show the client the tape and then they haul ass over to wherever the victim is and tape the confrontation. The host guy gets all up in the victims face and says stuff like "what do you ahve to say, how could you do this, dont you feel bad, hey get back here" stuff like that. And if it looks like the situation is going to be resolved calmly, he says stuff to fire the client back up. Hes such a little bitch. the best episode was when he confronted some guy on his boat and the dude stabbed the shit out of him. Little fucker didnt have much to say after that. ;kick

LMAO! We have some guys on local TV here that do shit like that. They are disguised as "investigative reporters" on the local news.
