ZX3, ZX5, ZTS, ZTW, sedan s, sedan se, wagon se (I may be missing a few but it dosen't matter)
now the 05-06 badging:
ZX3, ZX5, ZX4, ST, ZXW, the trim level s, se, ses dosent matter here.
Anyway the Escort started this naming scheam with the ZX2. In reality it ment Zetec times 2(or somtinhg to that effect). 2 cams or 2 door, I will say 2 doors.
The scheem was than brough over to the focus as the Focus replaced the Escort.
ZX3 = Zetec times 3 doors. OK that is good
ZTS = Zetec Touring Sedan. Ok good as well
ZTW = Zetec touring Wagon. Yet again equaly as good
Now the 05 model has the same naming scheem but no longer supports a Zetec motor. I know that changing a model is difficult but why keep the Zetec heritage if your dropping it all together. Shouldn't the new badging be:
DX3 = Dratec times 3
DTW = Duratec Touring Wagon not (ZXW)Zetec times Wagon. I think that is also gramaticly wrong also.
or even:
FX3 = Focus time 3 (Ya I know Ford is already using FX3 for there 4x4 ofroad package.
FTW = Focus Touring Wagon
sorry but this little thing bothers me slightly. Kinda liek changing the interior, exterior and drivetrain but keeping the same frame when a new one is available. world car my @ss.
I would bet anything the marketing team had a hand in this...
I mean "ZX3" (and so on...) may have originated from the Zetec (hence why LXs with SPIs aren't ZTS?) Anyway, it's like it started there, then for whatever reason, it stuck. People think of "ZX3" and "ZX5", it's stuck in their heads...
Changing it to DX3 or whatever else a) makes it look like a Cviic DX , haha, but otherwise, it's almost like naming the vehicle "Duraford" and expecting people to recognize the name as being the same car. (Bad analogy)
I DO like the the new trim system, being uniform except for ST... S, SE, SES. It makes sense. And the chassis thing is just Ford generally being jerks to us and favoring our neighbors across the pond.
Oh god! All I know about HD is they like black and orange, my dad's got two Sportsers and my uncle's got a Fat Boy, all three are nice looking bikes. There ends my motorcycle knowledge!
Are any of those strange Sportser trims mean "CUustom", cause that's how I hear my dad refer to his two. Not like customized/modded, but they're Sportster Customs?
A while ago, I saw a blog where someone had done a compilation of the most commonly used letters on car models. I can't find it now, but I remember that G, S, & X were the most common. R, T, P, & O were also used pretty often. As far as I can remember, I'm pretty sure Pontiac started this in the U.S. with the GTO.
