Brought my car in yesterday for an oil change and told them to fix my clunking clutch that I complained about over a year ago. Well, they finally decided to order parts to get her done. NOw that there is a TSB out for it they will comply.

Who else here has had this done, I know there is atleast one other SVT'r here who's gotten theirs fixed. And did they replace the throwout bearing?

Mind you mine's not the SVT, but I've had problems with my clutch since day one, but none of the clunking sounds you guys have.

Latest: Dropped off my Toyota Prius rental, and picked my car back up Friday afternoon. Clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing have been ordered. So gotta wait till they are in. Oil change was performed though, and I still gotta have them fix my squeaky brakes. My truck did the same thing, right around the same amount of miles. Squeak squeak.

yeah, i took mine in...mmmm 4k miles ago (april/may time frame) with TSB #04-08-1 printouts with part numbers and everything, they fixed it, it lasted for a day. by the time i got in my car saturday morning to go to work, it was clunking and rattling again. sooo, naturally, i took it back monday (picked the car up on a friday), they told me they heard nothing. i dont get how they cant hear it, but theyre ASE cert. techs, so they must know what theyre doing...so i called SVT, asked them why they would have fixed it under a diff TSB, was told it was an updated TSB (4-12-2). then he told me the new parts (which i believe you are talking about and raving about how they work so well) had jus become available the day before, sooo im waiting to go back and get this done. what the guy at SVT also said, was if when the clutch is assembled, if it is not torqued in the correct way, the alignment will be off within a day or so, which sounds like what happened with mine.

all in all, TSB 4-12-2 is def worth it, for those of us who can get there to "get her done"...

as for your toyota rental...at least they gave me a ford taurus

Thanks for the updated TSB number. I havent been keeping up with that stuff like I used to. I am going to make sure they perform the right one when they call about the parts.

BTW, that Prius was actually kinda neat for a change. No key, you actually put the remote into a slot in the dash, then push a button on the dashboard. The car starts, but you wouldnt know it. You cant hear it at all. Then there is a little joystick in the dash that you use for Drive and Reverse. There is a big screen (touch screen) in the middle of the dash at the top with all the different info you need for everything. That car gets anywhere from like 49 mpg to 99.9 mpg. Not bad.

So hey, knowing my clutch is dying a long, slow, painful death anyway...Sat, 9/11 - Dan and I were in my car, waiting for the throngs of fans to leave NED's parking field and I noticed that when I depress my clutch, no sound, when I let it go and idle in neutral - I hear kind of a knocking sound....I'm very curious about this!

Same prob. Throwout bearing. Might as well have the pressure plate and clutch replaced along with it.

yes, same prblem, but i was told by SVT its not the TOB, like iwouldve thought too. he said if when the clutch is assembled, and not torqued correctly, within a day of being put together it will work itself loose, and the teeth will not line up right on anything, hence the rattle. he said these clutches are really precise in thir torquing. but if you look at the sizes for the new clutch it is bigger, almost the size of the new duratec clutch, which makes it harder to work itself loose and less prone to idiots running the torque wrench. if you read posts on Focus Fanatics at all, theres plenttyy of threads there on this topic...

So then it's safe to assume that this isnt just an SVT problem. I have a slight knocking but not as loud as Chris.. from the sounds of it though, Chelly is having the same problem as you two are both having, am I wrong?

Tiff I'd like to think so, but I'm FUBAR because I have no warranty left...unless they consider the clutch part of the power train, which I don't know.

I"m pissed because I've complained about my clutch for the whole time I've owned it.  I'd have to find out where and when my first complaint was filed and if there is a TSB out on all of them...eventually...I may be able to have work done.

Damn...I"m at 41,500! and I know I need a new clutch!!!!

My clutch is at like 87.5k and it's still all good. A few off sounds once in a while, but I've just learned to ignore it. I jut rev the motor up and the exhaust noise drowns it out. Thats my solution.:D

every now and then,
if i push 2nd gear really hard
i get a rattling sound,
but beyond that,
13k and no problems.

my svt has around 37k miles on it, and yesterday on the way to work i was on a straight about 10 minutes from my house and the car started making a "clack clack clack clack" noise.its continuous, almost like  a sound from a belt..am i having the same problem with my car?the sound comes from below my battery and around the transmission area. as soon as i heard the noise i pulled over and shut the car off...its sitting at my house now and im bumming rides to school with friends.i just bought the car a month ago and i still havent even transferred the warranty.the noise it makes does not change with acceleration and when i change gears its smooth...basically the car still drives great (seems a little laggy) but the noise scares me so im not driving it till its fixed.

First of hi to all from a new guy.

I to had small problems with the clutch in my 03' SVTF, rattle coming from it and the clutch felt like it was soft ocasionally. I brought it to my service advisors attention and he looked into the TSB. I made an appointment to have it looked at, when they took it apart the clutch was smoked. They looked further into this and now I have a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, flywheel, clutch slave cylinder, and tranny.

No problems what so ever with the new setup. The clutch feels stronger then ever, the tranny shifts pretty smoothly as well. I only had 22K when this was done.

By the way I get taurus rentals when I have to leave the car overnight, not to cool looking but comfy.

heh.
the last time i dropped mine off,
the girl at the rental counter asked
if i wanted to "treat myself"
since the dealer was footing the bill.
i said "well, what do you have"
and she said "i've got an Explorer and a Volvo S80".

"that's not treating myself" i said.

"what? what are you driving?" she is shocked.

"when its done being worked on, remind me
to take you for a ride and then you'll understand"
i said with a wink,
as i signed the forms
to be issued my Mercury Sabel.
