Ok, here goes. I had let the wife take my car sometime ago and she had told me that when she was driving my car, she wanted to see how fast she could go. Well she said that she was only able to get the car up 105mph before the govenor kicked in. I had asked what did it feel like. She said that when she got up to that speed the speedometer was like shaking and did not want to go faster than that. I said, ok, looks like the govenor on my focus kicks in @ around 105mph. Now here is the weird thing. Tonite on my way home I decided to take the freeway and just for the hell of it I wanted to see if I could get the samething that my wife did. Well here is the result. I got it past the 105mph and nothing happened. I got it up to around 109-110mph and nothing happened. I am wondering if I really do have a govenor on my focus or not. I have no modifications other than a K&N Cone filter attached to my stock air intake tube that I got from Tiff at the last G2G. That's it. I wonder how come I got it to 109-110 and the wife only could manage 105??? Anyone care to explain to me what happened. And do I even have a govenor on my focus? Thanks in advance.

Im not sure what to tell you on that one. I wondered about the govener on mine as I was able to get mine up past 110mph before I put on the performance chip. Now with that installed, the last time I 'tested' I was able to get it very close to 130mph before I backed out of it due to lack of road. But I dont think I would have gotten much past that anyway as the top end was fading quickly.

It whines a lot, but I like it
Mine dies right around 108... those long drives home from Montreal through westbumf*ck VT gave me plenty of chances to hit it.
Chelly explains how it feels very well... there is just a total loss of power really. Personaly the 1st time i hit it i thought i killed the car or something... no throttle until it gets back down to like 90 or 95... then it kicks back in again.

Alex, mine also kicks in at 108. Were you going down a hill while attempting this? The only reason that I ask this is because in my work van one time, okay, maybe 15 or 20, I have reached the governor. On a few downhill stretches on 89 in east nowhere, I got the van up to at least 100 MPH when the governor is supposed to kick in at 90. I've even donr thi in my box truck, crazy bastard that I am. Only seems to happen going downhill.

Not that I know, but I thought the Governor was set at either 112 or 120...? Why it would be different for different drivers is way beyond me, but one thought I had is that markedly different atmospheric conditions (altitude or temperature) may have some effect on the ECU.

My fuel cut is at 108 on the speedo. Whatever that is in reality I don't know. Probably 105 or something cause all the speedos are off a bit, i believe. Whoever can go past that on a stock ecu probably has something faulty, either a sensor or the ecu. These foci aren't the most perfect of creations.

As for how it feels, no shake, I can just feel the throttle power die. Even if I have my foot in it...there is no more forward thrust.
that's exactly how it is with mine..the throttle power cuts off around 107/108, and it slows me down to about 85/90...than i get power back..like yours chelly, mine doesn't shake or nothing...
is there a chip that shuts off the governor completely on the zx3's??? cuz i know that some chips, such as Diablo Sport does not shut off the governor...it increases to about 115 or something like that... i hate the f-ing governor!!! i'll be racing on the highway, and i'll be in front, but as soon as i hit 107, i get SMOKED.... must shut off governor...

Man, that's a messed up speed controller. All the cars i ever drove to the limit just have a fuel cut for a second. It feels just like the rpm limiter. I'd lose a mph or two.
