I replaced my gas cap on my '05 with a locking cap, it's been well over a week but I eventually got the check gas cap light. I put the OEM cap back on. Haven't driven car much since but light is still on. Will it go off ? Just filled up also. It's still on or what do you think gals/guys? Thanks

It may shut off on it's own after x amount of on-off cycles.  You might want to get the code read though to make sure that's really whats causing the light to come on.

Is the '05 still using the OBD II system or have the switched it to the C.A.N. system yet?

I agree. It might take 5 or 6 on/off cycles. Make sure it's on tightly.

OBD is on board diagnostics, and CAN is Controller Area Network

Thanks RPIJG. I talked to my local Ford Dealer and they said give it a few days and if it doesn't go off they'll hook it up and turn it off.

JT, if it doesn't go off & you don't feel like taking it in, you could always use a BFH.

I remember from my 2k2 that I was only supposed to let the cap click twice to make it close properly.

I'm certain a few runs of fill and go will help clear it.

Mr. V

In the past when I've resorted to that type of sophisticated high tech method of maintanance. I generally smash the sh** out of some part of my body.

I checked over at the F.F. forum and a recommended fix was to disconnect battery for at  least 20 minutes and it will reset the computer. Seems like several people have been successful using this method, so I'll give it a try this weekend. You have a good one too!

If you use this method. Make sure you let it idle for about 5 mins then take her out and drive her awhile so the CPU can relearn your driving habits.

Thanks, I wouldn't have even thought about doing that. Will car run abnormal initially? I don't want to freak out, if car acts weird. Any special recommendations on how I should drive the car and for how long after the 5 minute set at idle.

This morning didn't start great when I turned they key on my dead bolt and it locked and key went around and around after that. I generally go in the back door and I don't think I have the 2 keys for the front door. Not to bright eh! May have to break the window to back door to get in. At least it's Friday, only 27 days of school left, YEAH!!!

I may send your post about the automated school answering machine to some friends around my school. Yes, they do expect you to raise their kids and get upset when you tell  them junior is a dullard and a royal pain!! Many question are answered immediately when you get your first look at the parents!

It might idle a little rough at first. I would take it out for a spirited drive on the highway and aroud town just to be sure.

"The saga continues"

As per my post yesterday. It's a beautiful Saturday, nice and cool. I go out and disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 20 minutes. Hook everything back up and no check gas cap light. Let car idle 5 minutes everything is cool. I leave to go for a little cruise to make sure everything is running well, no problems, GREAT. I turn around and get on the car a little and who do I see in my rear view mirror, with lights on. I pull over and go for my wallet and there is my check book and a ratchet, NO FUCKIN WALLET. Young policeman asks for all the usual stuff, so I start explaining. I give hime my TX. D.L # and all pertinent info. He stated I'm going to cut you a break no speeding ticket (clocked me doing 67 in 55 zone, just a warning) cites me for no D.L. and proof of insurance which I carry in my wallet(not any longer though). He stated if you just bring your D.L. and proof of insurance it won't go on your driving record. I wonder what type of fees will be acessed though. So I guess it could of been worse. ;ohno

You all quit laughing, I have a major headache. Later!

TF,

Thanks Bro'. I'm looking at radar detectors now. Any advice in the reasonably priced range on Radar detectors, one bad ticket would pay for even upscale models like a Beltronic.  I don't drive unsafely or generally very fast. Just one of those unfortunate situations. I never thought I'd need one but with the price of tickets now it's probably worth the investment. At least I feel better now a few beers and the right medicine:cool:!!! No driving tonight!!!

Well at least we solved the simple check gas cap idiot light situation.;up

Well to end this story; I took my ticket for driving w/o license, no proof of insurance, warning for speeding. I took my DL and insurance card to city office of      Whitehouse, TX. and didn't cost me a thing. :D I'm still considering a radar detector.

I just got nabbed for 79 in a 65. Nice guy considering I didn't have my lic. on me either.  I'ma schmuck.

Anywho - If you do chose to get a radar detector, actually go all the way and get a Laser/radar detector.

These popo can nail you from hundreds of yards away - before you even see them with those damn lasers.

BTW - I had to laugh, you poor thing.  lol! :driv

Chelly,

I'm going to talk to my best friend from my high school days. He's the Senior dentist for Harris County Jail(Houston). I'm going to ask him to talk with some of Sheriffs/Police(that he's friends with) which radar detectors are the best for a reasonable price. There's just too many to chose from and average person really doesn't know what they're purchasing and just how effective it is. I've heard Beltronics(these people make hearing aids also) is a good brand and one of the newest features is called (POP) this can give you a second or so against laser radar guns and  plus all off the usual features. I think you should be able to get a good one in the range of $150-$200. With the costs of tickets now it would be worth paying 2-3 times this amount if you're getting something effective but why pay this if you don't have to.
