i apologize if this is in the wrong section.

i recently got back into the focus world after my mustang got stolen . i am in the air force stationed at charleston afb, sc.

i have a 2003 zx3 i bought from a friend. it currently has an auto in it, and i wanna swap it out for a 5-speed. which transmission is best and where can i buy it? also, where should i start performance wise?

my plan right now is, when i get back from the desert in august, im gonna swap in the v8 conversion. but i hate automatics and wanna get a 5speed

Hey Welcome and dang sorry about your stang.

As for tranny's, try Lentech, I don't know if they do MTX tranny's, they do ATX , I know that.

Welcome to TF. Glad to have you here.

Changing over from ATX to MTX is a big, expensive job. Requires a new computer chip, chutch, linkages, throttle body, tranny, and more. Might actually be cheaper to buy an MTX rather than do the change, Just my $.02.

Welcome

and I second what Mr V said. Besides getting the tranny (Stock MTX75 is a decent tranny) you would need a new (or bone yard) computer from a manual focus. Also Ford likes to change some things around with the wiring so to make sure there is no issue there you may want to get the computer for an 03. Also do you have the 2.3L PZEV or 2.0L Zetec motor. There were both in 03 and 04 and you need to match the computer with the motor also. You may even need a new engine bay wiring harness depending on the connection differances detween a manual and auto.

Sad to say but the days of doing a manual to auto swap in the back yard with a few wrenches is over.
