Hi all...

As you may have seen from earlier posts I own a 2000 SE Sedan.  My dad however has a 2005 ZX5 SES.  The car came equipped with DRL's but there doesn't seem to be any way of turning them off.  If he justs wants the parking lights on...can't be done...if he is coming into a hotel parking lot late at night and doesn't want the lights shining into the room...no way of turning the lights off.  He went to the local Ford dealer who told him the same thing.  You can't turn them off.

I was hoping someone here might be able to help with this situation.

Thanks,

Dave in Florida

I don't have a wiring scematic for the 2005's, but I have to wonder if there is just a relay, similar to the one for the Fogs that can be removed?

Any of our 05'ers out here actually have the DRL's?  I thought this was a canadian, euro & fleet vehicle option only.

interesting!

Thanks for the reply.  I did a CarFax on the vehicle after we got it and found out that it was previously used as a rental.

Thats the problem with DRL's. They don't turn off. You get an insurance deduction for DRL's because they are a "safety feature".

I did know a girl who owned a 97 (I think) SunFart with DRL's and she could drive down the road at night turn her headlights off and lift the parking brake lever just enough so the idiot light on the dash turned on but did not yet start to activate the brake and the DRL's turned off. Good test is if your stopped and put the parking brake on when the car is running. If the DRL's turn off than you can use that trick, if not than your SOL or need to figure out a differant trick.

Also hotels have some pretty thick curtins so I wouldn't worry about shining light onto the windowns. If someone left the shades open its there own danm fault that someones car lights woke tham up. And think of this, how many people are as curtious as you dad wants to be when driving into hotel/motel parking lots??

One last thing. All focuses are wired for DRL's (accordign to wiring scematics) but I have yeat to hear of or see any 00-04's with them. Actualy this is the first Focus I have heard of having DRL's.

I have tested out the DRL on my 05 ZX5 and it is just a relay you can take out, I can find out which one it is, but it is located under the hood by the battery and is marked in the manual.  I will look tomorrow

Hey guys...thanks for all the help.  It was a relay switch.  We pulled it out.  No more DRL's.  It's great that there are people on here who are so helpful.
