Hello All,

2000 zx3 is what I drive and just curious whether to get first K&N or AEM, and then short ram intake or cold air intake.  Advantage/disadvantages?

Thanks,

Blaine

Let me be the first to say- Welcome to Team Focus! Now... down to business.

Want to save a buttload of money? Get a cone filter, remove the stock airbox, and slap that baby right on the end of your MAF. $25 for a filter (a cheap one) and you've got a short ram intake.

NOW as far as aftermarket intakes go, There is NO POINT in buying a full cold-air intake. You're not making enough power to truly reap the benefits of a cooler intake charge. For the 1-2 hp difference you might see (over what I suggested) for $200 more... you could get more HP for much less money.

I say if you have $200 burning a hole in your pocket, do the cone filter mod and buy an underdrive pulley or an exhaust. The UDP will net you a couple HP, and the exhaust will get you a couple HP (and some noise).

Thanks for the advice.  Honeslty (and I hope I do not get hated for this) I just want a little noise.  I am currently in college and dont have the money to drop into my car, but still want to sound/look good via small purchases.

Thanks again

Well cheap noise is to cut off the "lunch-box"(the rear most muffler/resinator) from the exhaust and put a straight pipe in its place(so it exits at the bumper like stock). I head a 00 ZX3 with this done (back in 01) and I thought he had a cat back at first.

you can remove the resinator on the airbox (small black box on side of filter housing) to gain a tad bit of noise from the intake. This is a free mod :D

To save money just get a high flow filter (K&N or AmsOil) to fit into the stock housing.

You can also do as PFF said.

Thanks fx3...

I already did cut muffler out and straight pipe it, but it's not enough.  I will try the resignator tomorrow and see what it does.  What's it held on by or what should I be looking to take off?  Any more detail?

Thanks for the "noobish" help guys, but I really do appreciate it.

I have seen a wide range of prices for air induction system. i.e a small filter and  a plastic tube, into the intake. Claims air flow engineereing  varing horsepower boost. What is real and what is hoax? I have removed the resonater and my car accelerates quicker but  at low rpm dies some times.  Is some restriction necessary?

I hope you still have the air filter on. I'd sure 2nd the suggestion project focus fast made. Remove the resonator box, buy a cone filter, and attach it to your maf with a hose clamp. Done!       ;2cents
