So my wife and I, just traded in our 2000 ZX-3 on a 2005 ZX-5, it has the 5 speed tranny in it, but what I am unsure of is the engine that is in it.... I was under th impression it was the 2.3 liter, but now I am unsure... I see the different performance forums for the Zetec, Duratec, Spi, and that one with the p and z in the name, I would like to know what my engine is, so I can hunt down some go-fast parts for it, also I am curious if the suspension out of the SVT cars will fit into our car. Thank you very much in advance, I wouldn't dare ask a newbie type question like this on that other Focus forum... thanks again.

You MIGHT have a 2.3, but it is unlikely. If it is a PZEV engine, it's a 2.3 Duratec. The PZEV engine has a LOT... I mean a LOT of extra wires and hoses running all over the place.
Here is a picture of a PZEV
However it is more likely that you have a 2.0 Duratec. This is a great engine, and takes quite well to forced induction (which means it probably takes well to nitrous too).
Here's a pic of the 2.0 Duratec
I'm guessing you are interested in modding your engine, based on the topic title. What are your goals? You can take the Duratec pretty far without boost or nitrous, but of course you'll go a lot farther with them.
You should probably start off with the basic bolt ons... intake, exhaust, header (in that order).
If you get an exhaust from an eariler Focus (2000-2004) it is a direct bolt on and also removed the catalytic converter. I'm currently running a system like this on my '06 ZX3, and I love it.
The exhaust sytem I am running: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/00-04-FORD-FOCUS-N1-CATBACK-EXHAUST-ZX3-3DR-01-02-03_W0QQitemZ200199536382QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item200199536382
You'll want to remove the silencer from the tip, and rust-proof the tip (the tip isn't stainless, as I found out this winter!).
If you want something different, there are tons of exhausts out there. Any exhaust from any year ZX3/5 will fit (and bolt directly in), but if you want to keep the catalytic converter, you'll need to find one for an '05-'07.
There are several good intakes on the market, but I've found that you can save a lot of money by just removing the stock airbox and replacing it with a cone filter. Note that the air box is in the fender, behind the front bumper. The box you see when you look at the engine is NOT the airbox! It is a vapor recovery system box. I think I did a how-to on a home-made Duratec intake, and if I didn't I have the pictures for one somewhere.
For headers, I'd say go either with a Cosworth or FocusSport header. Make sure you get a flex section to go with it, otherwise there's no point (your exhaust only flows as well as the most restrictive part!)
So there's the basics... any more questions?

'80 RX7 SA- Where the f*** did THAT come from?
I'm going to verify that you hav a 2.0L as on 05-07 the 2.3L was only available in the ST Sedan. And as of 08 the 2.3L is no longer in the Focus.
The 2.0L is still good but you start with a little less motor.
Now if you has a 04 ZX5 with the Duratec than it would be a 2.3L as the 2.0L duratec was not put into the Focus untill 05.
And
Also glad to head you don't mind asking any kind of question here.
Edit: forgot one question you had.
I am not 100% on this but I think the 05 is the only year of the new nose style that you can still use the 02-04 SVT suspension on. In 06+ they made slight tweeks to the suspension and only parts of the SVT setup can be used.
You folks on this site are some of the best "enthusiasts" I have ever encountered, I am on a LOT of different forums between the Focus stuff, and my diesel performance world and you are quick to lend a helping hand and nobody tries to sound like they are any better than anybody else, kudos to all of you!! I am hoping to go with an MBRP exhaust on the ZX5, anybody use it on here? Intake wise I was leaning toward the Focus Sport Cool-Flo race air intake, anybody try this one? Are there available for the Intake, those little things that go between the filter and engine to prevent engine damage from picking up water and such? Thanks for any help.
There's a few people running around with MBRP's but I don't think any of them have them on a Duratec. As for the intake question, the FS Cool-Flo ends up in the fender, and there is a plastic guard / lower valence below it, so getting water to it would be near impossible (unless you're driving in 2' deep water...) so I wouldn't worry about that. I'm sure you could get one to fit somewhere, most likely right next to the TB, but the intake is "constantly curved" I guess you could say, so finding a straight section for that won't be easy.
Oh and as for the suspension- fx3 is right, the '05 still used to old suspension (not that there's really any difference- just the spring perches). So there's a whole slew of suspension available for your car.
