It rolled over to 50.000 miles today. I watched it. I know it is not actually old but something about it is weird. LOLOL!!!! Although, it could be worse, my bf's cars both have at least 200.000 miles plus. Anything due on a focus at 50? Just wondering since I am sure someone on this board has reached that mark.
Check the owners manual to make sure that you are caught up on everything that needs to be done. Other than that, there's nothing specific at the 50K interval. When you get to 60K you're supposed to check the timing belt and replace if needed, replace the PCV valve I believe, take a look at the spark plugs and replace if needed, and that is of course along with anything else that might have reached it's time too.
Yeah, you wouldnt believe how much storm chasing racks up the miles on a car, add that with a 70 mile round trip to work 5 days a week and wah lah, you got mileage piling up.
In fact, I just changed out the oil (0W-30 Amsoil) on the car. It wasnt close to needing changed, but the filters were. I was approaching 9000 miles on the filters. I was going to install some crank scrapers but was unable to do so because of the way the lower half of the motor is built and because of the windage tray being made as part of that lower half.
So I changed out the oil and the oil filters (including the by-pass filter) since I had to drop the oil pan to do everything. I pulled a sample to for analysis and am waiting for the results of that. I have to say I am impressed with the oil even more so now. I had absolutely NO sludge in the pan, and there was very little deposits on the lower part of the motor, and what was there I was able to wipe off with a rag which impressed me further. If I had been serious about it I could have made the lower part look like it had just come off the assembly line. I just wish I could have gotten a closer look at the crank shaft to reaffirm everything else I was seeing.
The oil still looked really good for having nearly 9000 miles on it. I guarantee you if I had pushed a regular oil that distance and in the heat we have had here it would be nearly pure sludge by now. Im eager to get the oil analysis back and see what they have to say.
