Hi everyone,

I'm try to change my 1.6 ltr engine for a bigger one. I was hoping to put a 2.0 Duratec in but here is where it gets difficult. I know I will have to change the ECU, drive shafts and hub assemblies. Does anybody know if it can be done.

And if it can be done, does anyone have any info about it. Will I have to change anything else.

First off Welcome.

Hope you like it here and have fun.

You best bet will probably be to get a donor car. I am not sure about the 1.6L as I am in the states but I know the 2.0L Duratec is setup backwards from the 2.0L Zetec and you would require more Duratec parts. I know that Going from a 2.0L SPI(SOHC) to a 2.0L DOHC Zetec basicly only requires the motor, tranny(I beleve the SPI tranny is to weak for the bigger motor), and ECU(computer) The blocks are the same and I beleve the drive train is also. You may be able to swap to a 2004(or lower) 2.0 Zetec without to much trouble. Also it may just be easier and cheaper to find a used 2.0L duratec car. There have been people over her wantign to do the same thing but have not yet and I also read about a guy(well his wife was pressuring him) wanting to just change from manual to an automatic and a lot of people just told him it would be cheaper just to find a used auto focus and to get the DOHC motor at the same time as he had the SPI motor.

All I can say is research the price on the parts and than add in labor. If you are planning on doing this than add what your time is worth. It may be cheaper and lees of a headache to pay 4-6 grand for a used Focus. I'm not sure what they are going for over there tho.

Thanks for the info, Buying a second hand donor car would be out of the question. This is rip off Ireland and even that would cost at least $10.000, besides, theres no such thing as a 2 ltr petrol Zetec over here. Its either a 1.6 or the Duratec which is in the ST170 (SVT) over there I think, so I have my work cut out.

Thanks again for your help.

If you want a 2 liter zetec, or duratec for that matter, go to http://www.kansasracingproducts.com and email them. Gerry has plenty for sale.
