:(

Hello,
I hope someone can help.

My check gas cap light is on and won't go off. Same thing happened once and it went off by itself when I least expected it.

I had a service yesterday but they said it would go out by itself in a day or two. The computer works that way. I don't buy it. I tighted that cap and it seems solid also have a new cap.

Please advise what you think 6500 miles on the car--only.

Carolina

How long has it been since you took it to service?

Maybe give it a little bit more, or you might have a bad sensor? Never heard of this before.

Sometimes its simply a matter of taking the cap off and putting it back on.. ive heard a lot of people complain that this sensor is very sensitive... annoying to some, helpful to others... if it doesnt go off after a few days, give t he dealer another call. ..

Thank you. As I mentioned, it happened before a few weeks ago and I put it on and off and twisted it around and it finally went out as I was driving. I will try again. I will think positive. I LOVE the car but after having so much trouble with my Neon I am having flashbacks!!!!!

C;)

Yeah, give it some time then, do what Tiff said, take it off, do it a couple of times and see what happens. Good luck and Welcome!

I had this problem once before, there is a valve that can get stuck open that can cause this problem, a dealer should recognize this and be able to fix it.

:DGood news re my gas cap light!!!

I jiggled with it and tightened again for the millionth time and the light went off as I was driving in Los Angeles at 6AM!! Thank you for all your help everyone.

I tightened it firmer than ever before and I think that did it.  However, I am not too crazy about it being so sensitive.  I will talk to the dealer.

Thanks everyone and have a great week!!!!

C

Glad to see its solved...

One quick question. You said you have a new cap. Is it a stock ford one ar an aftermarket one?

If your cap is stock ford, when you fill the tank tighten the cap untill you hear a few clicks and it should be tight enough.

If its an aftermarket cap (like locking or somthing) than that might be your problem. You could either live with the light on from time to time or tray a differant one or go back to stock.

I had this happen once. Turned out that a vacuum hose had slipped off.
